Sooo many beers on tap and a great place to bring the dog!

Went on a Thursday night chill crowd not to packed the perfected amount. Sat down inside ordered a few beers with friends. Ordered a side of the small waffle fries( should have gotten a large they were delicious). The bull dog is always a fun place to be. Especially Wednesday if your into collecting their pint glasses. Although it can get a little crowed so get there early.
(4)Eliza M.
Went there for pint night since we had a guest in town. I wasn't expecting that much since I thought of it as a college bar. Had the chicken quesadilla and it was honestly one of the best restaurant quesadillas I have ever had. Pint night (Wednesday) is cool since you can get free pint glasses with the purchase of a beer. The patio is nice since there are large fans circulating the air but I would probably not sit inside since people can smoke which makes it feel a little too divey for me.
(3)Stacy S.
We didn't try the food, but this is a great place to get a cold one and just sit back and enjoy the afternoon. So many beers to choose from and a great outdoor seating area with misters and fans to cool you during the afternoon!

First. Let me say I do love this bar. Today we had a bad experience. They advertise on the site that they are pet friendly (considering the name). I called before we went and asked if dogs were allowed to make sure, and the bartender told me yes. My roommate brought her English bulldog who was greeted happily by everyone in the bar (we drove 15 miles here). Her bully is 10 years old and doesn't move much so she walked in and laid down while we ordered beer. We proceeded to go outside when we realized it was torrential down pouring monsoon style so we waited right by the back door for it to slack up. After about 30 minutes (still pouring), a bartender came over and said that we had to go outside because the GM was in town and it looked bad with with a dog in the bar. Now, it's flooding outside so our only choice was to close out our tab and face the rain to run to the car. My issues are this.... don't advertise as being pet friendly if you're only pet friendly outside. Every one is pet friendly if you're standing outside the establishment, right? Also, have some sort of rain plan for a dog friendly place. It rains EVERY DAY in NOLA in the summer at happy hour. There are no covered areas outside besides a few umbrellas that don't serve as any type of rain protection if we have to stand outside the bar with our dog at a dog friendly bar. I feel like their decision to kick us out into the lightning storm was ridiculous seeing how no one had a problem with the napping bulldog at the pet friendly bar..... called bulldogs!

Fun place. Last time they had some sort of mystery juice they were divying up which was cool. One downside - the place was full of college kids, which at age 31 made me feel like a geezer. Went in for lunch one time - had a burger that was very respectable. I've never sat outside but it definitely looks like a great place to chill. Everytime I leave here I am very drunk.
(4)Jarrod F.
I thought this place a cool bar with a good beer selection on draft. The vibe was cool and it wasn't all divey with a bunch of old drunks, it had lots of young drunks in here too ;) The beers were cold and the service was good; I would definitely go back for a drink or two. I recommend this place and think you should have a drink here; sorry I cannot recommend the food because I didn't eat anything other than hops.
(4)Marielle S.
The Bulldog is one of my favorite places in the city and I have been going here for years. As a girl who likes good beer, The Bulldog has a fantastic selection of both bottle and draft. If you can think it up, it is pretty much a guarantee that this place has it. I prefer this location over the one on Canal because it's smaller and has a more intimate feel. I know that this might put some people off, but I love it. It makes mingling a lot easier, and you meet new friends when you share a table with someone. The bartenders are always attentive and go out of their way to accommodate me, even if they are busy. Don't hesitate to ask for a sample of a new draft before you pay $5 for a pint. They are also quick to give a good recommendation on something you might like, if you tell them what your "regular" is, and you are in the mood to experiment. Big screens above the bar make it great for game days. Get here early for Saints games or major sports events, because the place gets packed! The food is good and cooked to order. My fave is the Abita burger. What I think I love most is that the patio is heated during cold months, so if you are one of those people who is more comfortable sitting outside, you can still have a good time. Oh, and dogs are welcome on the patio!
(5)Holly G.
The Bulldog is great if you're a beer fan - I'm not, but it's still pretty great. You can bring your dog to the patio and they have water bowls for them. It's a nice place to sit outside in the fall or spring. They have pretty good food, too. I always get the mushroom burger with swiss cheese and it's very tasty. The people who work there are cool and attentive. It can get crowded at night, especially on weekends, but the bottom line is that if you're hungry, thirsty, and wanna chill with your pooch on a patio, go to the Bulldog.
(4)Jeremy H.
I like beer so I like this bar. They also sell pretty good bar food.
(4)Greg B.
Happily walking along Magazine Street, I suddenly realized my GF was missing. Turns out she got stuck at a jewelry store 10 blocks back. So I went into the Bulldog to wait for her to catch up. Good choice! Many beers on tap, and many more by the bottle, in addition to the many mixed drinks. I am not used to drinking this early, so I figured a coffee stout and a chocolate stout would be the best early afternoon drinks. Yum! Friendly bartender, but she wouldn't sell me the nice Bulldog - save the animals t-shirt. The only way to get that shirt, she explained, is to drink 10 pints, then turn the empty pints in for the shirt. I didn't get the shirt.
(3)Joi B.
The Bulldog is definitely a departure from some of the slightly (or very) divey bars that populate Magazine Street. Not knocking these, as places like Buddha Belly and Les Bon Temps are some of my favorite bars around. But, the Bulldog seems like it's scrubbed clean on a regular basis. Stuffy or fancy, it's not, either. I deem it: preppy saloon. And hey, you can bring your dog here, too. And if you throw coins into the fountain, they are gathered to make donations to an animal shelter or charity. The pride in their operation is evident. I like! I had a drink here on a gorgeous weekday afternoon, so my experience is definitely not like what I'd expect on a weekend night. So I think I'll be adding it to my day drinking roster because that patio on such a day is sahhhweeeet! And I enjoyed my better-than-decent Bloody Mary immensely. Something slightly strange did happen to me on this day. A gal offered me her almost full plate of cheese fries, stating that they were amazing and I should have them. I *might* have been looking slightly like a street urchin to inspire such an act of kindness. I'm not complaining!
(4)Jeff W.
Closed grill early and wouldn't make part of their menu. Looking elsewhere for food. Don't stop in later in the night. Vegetarians, run the other way!
(1)Carrie R.
We really enjoyed the selection of beers and casual nature of this bar. We're going back today for another pint! The bartender was very knowledgeable and the other patrons were laid back as well.
(4)Zoe B.
The Bulldog is a great place to get a beer. Located in a great spot on Magazine Street, you can enjoy the pub-like scene inside, or hang out on the lovely patio and people watch. Fun to watch a game or hang out late night on Wednesdays and keep your pint glasses. They have a great selection of beers and always interesting ones on draft. I'm knocking some starts off because I just haven't had that good of experience with the service and the bartenders. Maybe they don't like college kids or don't like girls, but most of the bartenders that I've interacted with have not been that friendly. I'll keep coming back, but won't be trying to make small talk.
(3)Colin A.
Decent pub food and a good beer selection. Recommend the Southwest Egg Rolls.
(3)John T.
Lots of great beer. 50 on tab. Standard bar food. Mid city better people. Uptown is doucey college scene. (actually compared to other major cities the beer selection is pretty poor. good beer selection in comparison to the rest of NOLA though which is a pretty poor beer town)
(3)Anthony M.
Good beer bar with a great selection. I love their fancy fountain! Welcome to New Orleans hipsters.
(4)Jill Y.
Wednesday nights are the best!!! Bring your glasses home! Fries are yummy! Try to come early to grab a table on Wednesday (before 9PM). Best part..their beer list is pretty big and offer a lot of local beers. Good Times! (Wish they were no smoking!!) =(
(4)Heather D.
Low and behold, I wandered in after an afternoon of exploring Magazine Street to find that Wednesday's are keep the pint glass, when you order a beer, day! YAY!!! This was an unexpected treat, not only did they have a great beer selection on tap, you keep the pint glass, which is decorated with various quirky sayings. It was an extra special treat that a portion of all proceeds from the bar go to a local animal shelter/welfare group - I can't remember the name, but I was impressed and the details can be obtained at the bar. Apparently this is quite the local hang out - especially Wednesday's to the point that once you have collected 10 pint glasses you can return them in exchange for a shirt! While I only managed 2 glasses (mostly because I didn't want to carry more than that around all day), and nowhere near the shirt quota, this place was great! Will definitely return!
(4)Matt F.
Really great bar on Magazine St. They have a great patio that seems to be made for an afternoon of drinking with friends. Always a good crowd with great tv's, water misters and fans. I could have spent days here with my local friends. Will be back when I step foot in NOLA again
(5)Kor K.
My friends and I went to the a bulldog to watch the Saints played a playoff game against the Eagles. The ambiance was enjoyable with friendly patrons.
(4)Jay J.
Very nice beer selection particularly with Louisiana craft brews. We stopped in after a long walk down Magazine Street after a visit to the zoo. The staff and patrons were all friendly. One minor complaint would be that the bartender missed the opportunity to suggest brews to myself and other folks. There was a big list of beers from a local brewery behind the bar, when I picked one she said they weren't available until that night as the people from the brewery were coming. That's fine, but no suggestion as to what from the other big selection might be similar. I picked the NOLA Hopzilla which was great. But I failed to save another guy looking for a Dogfish Head that ended up with a PBR.
(3)Savannah B.
This is my absolute favorite hangout in NOLA! I HATE beer and I found an amazing one here at The Bulldog! It's a Red Woody and I highly reccomend it!! The food is off the wall amazing! The cuban wrap and Porter fries are the most amazing thing on earth!! YUM!
(5)m j.
I've had great times at this place. Honestly, though, the big draw for us was being able to bring in the crawfish from bigfisherman across the street. That would push The Bulldog from 1 star to 5 stars. Very disappointing to hear. Does anyone know why they changed the policy?
(1)Roxanne C.
As much as I love uptown bars over mid-city bars, I would choose to come to the mid-city location over this one any day. The mid-city location is a lot bigger and is cleaner. Plus, the mid-city location is closer to my house so unless I have friends already at this location, I usually don't make plans to come here.
(3)Amanda C.
I've only come to this place for quick waterings during the afternoon, so this review is solely based on that. The reviews seem to negate all of what I'm about to write, but I'll go for it anyway. The bar is full of locals (I think?) and for some reason these guys don't seem to be the nicest. I've never met someone unfriendly in New Orleans, but I guess during the day everyone is a little sour? I don't know. I've also been in there when an imensely obnoxious old guy got really drunk and kept yelling at the bartender 'SWEETIE, HONEY, HEY!!! GET ME A DRINK! HEY!' and neither the guys in the back nor anyone else did anything. Anyway, they've got a ton of beers (50 taps?) and as everyone has said, you get to keep your pint glass on wednesdays, which is usually a cute animal themed SPCA glass. There's usually a few people smoking in the place which sucks for non-smokers because the air doesn't move. It's not my favorite, but it's not that bad either. It's a nice place to sit down after a long walk, especially in the outdoor seating/tap waterfall area.
(3)Allison K.
The Bulldog! I love this place. Great service. Great atmosphere. Nice big patio. Lots of locals. Tons of beers on tap. It's just an all around great spot. The food can be a little touch and go. The burgers are perfect. Some of the other stuff ranges from meh to ew. Plus, they give to dog charities and have pics of dogs on the walls. Makes me homesick for my pooch back home from time to time but I love this place and come all the time.
(4)Mickey R.
We stopped here because Slim Goodie's down the street had a small fire and was closed unexpectedly. Burgers were good, and waffle fries with cheese are hard to beat, but it was a complicated process and took forever to place the order, and the guys in the kitchen were kind of...not quite rude, so let's say abrupt. And they forgot one of our items. The crawfish banditos were only so-so. The beer selection was impressive, and the prices for pints seemed really reasonable. The bartenders were polite, but I never got asked once if I wanted a refill on my diet Coke. OK, it's not a money-maker, but even if I'm not drinking alcohol at the bar, it's plainly evident I just spent over $50 on food, and $2.25 for 16 oz of soda. Is one refill too much to ask? The place was crowded on Monday afternoon, and it can get tight sitting at the bar--lots of personal space invasion. It's also loud inside. Very. The patio was packed, and they do have a very cool fountain made of beer taps outside.
(3)Kimberly A.
Had to drop it down a notch. They no longer allow patrons to bring in crawfish out on the patio. BOOOOOOOOO! This is what made the Fall and early Spring at the Bulldog a must visit for me. Now I consider if I will return..... My feelings are just hurt, I shall reevaluate later.
(4)Felicia H.
In general, I'm a big fan of the Bulldog. I love the extensive beer selection and the outdoor patio that's dog friendly. My three-star rating is a reflection of the outdated menu they have. I ordered the "California fire-grilled chicken" which says it has this raspberry vinaigrette dressing that my boyfriend completely hyped up for me and then... womp, womp, womp... no dressing. I even went back to the ordering window to ask and they simply replied that they don't use it anymore (dismissive shrug). UUGGHH. I would've ordered something else had I known. My first bite of the sandwich sans vinaigrette was tasty. And then it just got more and more bland as I proceeded. Mind you, I still polished off that sandwich like nobody's business but I left unsatisfied and kept thinking what huge waste of calories that was! I'll be doubly annoyed when I have to the hit the treadmill to burn off those worthless calories. My cohorts also got the pulled-pork sandwich and crawfish banditos that they devoured and proclaimed delicious. However, they're boys who eat indiscriminately so I dunno how much I believe them. Bitter much?
(3)Brandon M.
I have been to this spot on magazine a bunch of times the last few years. Every time, I go, which btw is after 10PM, is already a crowded place. However, within 5 minutes you are served and able to find a seat, if one exists, or find a nice corner to stand in to talk with your friend(s). Food at times can be a bit greasy, but overall very good and definitely would recommend to go. it is in the college area of the city, which gives it that college bar feel, with younger kids in there, (younger than me).
(4)Marc A.
Killer beer bar that serves really decent pub food. Plenty of drafts to choose from plus three fridges stocked with bottles so you'll find something to drink. The pub food, named after beers, includes all your fried goodies plus burgers. Bonus star and a smile for sweet potato fries. Enjoy!
(5)Stephen R.
Hear ye! Hear ye! The people have spoken! *LOWER YOUR PRICES OR WE WILL STOP COMING* I mean, the rich college kids that want pint glasses won't stop coming, but mark my words Bulldog the underrepresented majority will. I realize you have an epic tap journey across the world. I attempted to complete it. After 3 beers I had to stop. Not because they were too strong, but because you charged me $11.00 for one of them. I could buy an entire wardrobe, and a new Mercedes for the cumulative cost of the beer tasting challenge.
(2)Le Beau Visage' By M.
Great food, great atmosphere, great people, great location. I especially love when there is an open table outdoors.
(5)Shannon S.
Bulldog we've had a long sweet run but now once again you're raising your beer prices so we have to part ways. I love you dear Bulldog but I will not let you rape me like this! You first encourage me to bring in crawfish for YEARS then you slap me and tell me I can't! You raise your prices not once, not twice, but THREE times in so short a space of time! Breaking up is hard to do but in this case it ain't that hard as financially it makes perfect sense. It used to be so much fun with you but now you've gone so corporate and sold your soul. I can go to Blue Nile to watch music AND drink beer cheaper than I can just drink beer with you Bulldog and I can get $2 Abita Amber almost EVERY night along with better food at Bruno's! I guess I will be at Tracy's or most of the other bars Uptown with all the rest of your former regulars drinking the same beer at substantially cheaper prices.

Day of the "White Linen Party," a date early evening, and out with a group of friends...I must admit for a hot august day, visiting this place was a good choice. Not too crowded easy on the wait time for an order, though here's where it sort of began on a distasteful beginning. I had ordered: (which was an awkward no wait staff... place your order and go sort of joint) I also didn't appreciate the hostility when the chef/order taker saw me write zero in my tip portion of the bill. Though I later realized his back was turned when I had put actual "cash" in his tip glass. I had ordered: sweet potato fries 4.99 & Dead Guy 10.99 my friend ordered: Crawfish Banditos 10.99 We sort of shared our orders because we couldn't decide between the two. I have to say neither choices were what I was wanting and for a sweet potato fry lover! I couldn't get them down. I was stuffed not out of goodness but because I had not eaten and was hungry. The aesthetics: Dark*** inside with a very appealing outdoor back area... Crossed between my favorite, picnic style benching and individual iron tables. A fountain with spouts of different ales. (decor purpose only) Trees surround the area to create shade and I do believe Christmas lights. Would of loved to see this place at night! The memory was A fellow and his guy bud were chumming over drinks made friends with us rather easily. That buddy left and a gal walks over to join him, she wasn't as polite nor caring as the two gentlemen were. When I do head back I would love another chance at this place, perhaps in the early evening to late night caps. With a bit of patience and a good attitude this place deems itself as enjoyable and fun!
(4)Sara G.
For what it advertises, it is indeed as good as it gets. The bulldog is one of our favorite spots for several reasons. One, we can bring the pooch. Our pup loves the special attention he gets here as do we. You should note that they are only allowed outside though. The Libations: The beer is excellent, they don't call themselves draft freaks for nothing. Glasses are perfectly chilled, beer is perfectly poured, bartenders are appropriately knowledgable. You even get to take home your glasses on Wednesdays! The Food: The cheese fries are excellent and everything else is just pub food, but who cares when you are allowed to bring in outside food from anywhere! Grab a muffellata from Regginellis next door or a bag of boiled crawfish from Big Fisherman caddy corner and you're set! WARNING! If you're trying to bring your dog and it's a Wednesday night, beware! It's packed Wednesday nights for pint night. Still enjoyable, just a heads up.
(5)Kyle B.
IPA is different out here. The WEATHER is different out here, I think most things are different out here. The water is sure different out here, the decorations on the fountain of beer tabs are different out here. NOLA is different out here. Not touristy, not over-run, calm and good beer, this is an example of a wikipedia defintion of what a beer bar should be. Great selection of beer, knowledgable about beer and you can get a pint to-go. Sorry west coast friends, a pint-to-go is a dream in the weather of the illustrious sunday morning bar crawl.
(5)Juliette V.
A pretty okay place... Big selection of beer, typical pub grub... The inside is pretty narrow and the outside seating area is a bit crowded, but if you're here to just drink beer, you're at the right place.
(3)Amanda W.
I know you think that you're super cool, bartender, because you work at The Bulldog but that really doesn't give you an excuse to be a rude a*****e. That being said, I will still go back, because my girlfriend just moved into a new apartment and draft night is good for the free glasses. Also, their burgers are good.
(2)Mike V.
a must if you skipped dinner or were too busy to stop drinking on a Saturday. incredible beer selection and fantastic bar food. on a warm day the outdoor patio is amazing. not so packed that you can't find a seat but good luck if your group is larger than four (or your brought more than one dog with you). great people watching to as it's right on the street corner. TV set up inside works well for watching games.
(4)Elsa M.
"I think I'm gonna do the Dead Guy," I said - not realizing how it sounded, but completely excited about the opportunity to get my hands on one. The Dead Guy is a burger piled high with jalapeños, guacamole, ranch dressing, apple wood smoked bacon, and shredded cheddar and jack cheeses. I got it with the guac on the side since I don't like too many condiments on burger and the ranch alone seemed like it would seal the deal. We went there to catch the game (my Packers lost :( ) and have a couple of beers. I am not a big beer person, but I do like wheat beers with my burgers or wings, so I paired mine with one of their Strawberry Ales. DELICIOUS! We sat inside as it was a big cool outside, but the outside patio was packed with people and dogs since the pub is true to its name and dog-friendly. I was a bit irked that the game was on, but the sound was down, but they turned it up when I asked for it. You order your food by going to a small window near the front door and speaking to the griller himself. I felt bad that he had to do it all since the orders were coming in and he was really swamped, but once you got his attention he was very pleasant... Bulldog doesn't get a 5-star for its ambiance, friendliness, or even the beers though. Total, that would only be about a 3 star. The reason it gets a 5-star is for the burgers alone. My friend loved her Tecate burger and my Dead Guy - man! It came more and more alive with every bite. The jalapeños were on point!!! YUM! I can't wait to get back down there and tear it up again!
(5)Vicky L.
I don't remember how many times I've been here, but i had a great time hanging out with my friends each time here. They are also dog-friendly. The beer is cheap (but good), great selection. They have clean bathrooms, and great outdoor seating. The only downside is that there's always a long wait for your food (they stop taking orders to try and catch up.) but the wait for your food is worth it because they are so good. i am told that they don't mind if you bring in outside food. I haven't tried it yet, but when I do, I'll let you know if it's true.
(4)Clint C.
If you're looking to drink some good beer without a crowd of peckerhead tourists this is your place.
(4)Meghan V.
The food at the Bulldog is really decent. It's great bar food with awesome New Orleans flair. Although I've never experienced the atmosphere, since we usually order take out, it looks like an awesome little british style pub. That being said, their phone service is horrendous. They offer takeout, but don't want to provide it. Every time that we have ordered over the phone the gentleman who answers is rude, impossible to work with, and flat out nasty at times. Our last experience was the worst. During the Saints game our guests decided they would like to get some burgers. We suggested the Bulldog, since we really do enjoy the food. We had 6 orders to place. Your basic burger orders (medium rare, cheddar and bacon, may and lettuce), some crawfish banditos and wings. Nothing special or strange for their menu. The man on the phone literally complained to us as to how long it was going to take. "Do you know how long this is going to take!? We're really busy here!" After suggesting that we could take our business elsewhere, he begrudgingly took our order. He was rude, asked us to repeat ourselves constantly and continued to make comments about how long it would take. After placing our $100 order he informed us that it would take about 45 minutes to be ready. That's not even an insane waiting time! Overall, our experience today will probably stop us from ordering their food ever again. It was shocking and somewhat disturbing that an employee would complain about a customer placing an order. We are very displeased and hate that we won't be able to enjoy the food anymore. Whoever this gentleman on the phone is needs a discussion about customer service and loyalty to your job. Or maybe he just needs the boot, because The Bulldog just lost customers.
(2)Judy H.
I just like Wednesdays when you get the free pint glasses. :D Other than that, the food was unmemorable, I was cold where I was sitting, and there was a lot of people. Probably would just go on Wednesdays and probably not very often. It was ok.
(3)Ana G.
So I was impressed and knew from the get go that I was going to like this place when I beheld the water fountain made with beer taps. Just awesome. Anyway, I didn't stay here very long as my friends, fiance and I were strolling though Magazine St. and were craving a beer for our walk. We entered and were impressed with the beer selection as well as the ambiance. The inside of the place has dark wood which gives it an old Irish pub kind of feel. The bartender was very helpful and quite entertaining for the 15 min we were there. This is def a place that I would want to hit up whenever I returned to town.
(4)Lauren S.
Spectacular beer selection, great burger and chicken sandwich. We felt very, very, very old, but it's a fun place.
(4)Melissa B.
GREAT beer selection, good bar food. What else do you need?
(4)Perrey L.
There is no way not to love the bulldog. The beer selection is bar-none (har de har har) and the patio is just the perfect place for chilling with a drink, a couple of friends, whether or not of the canine persuasion. The beer tap fountain lends a magical vibe to the scene, as does the prime location smack dab in the middle of the oh-so-hip Magazine Street. That said, this place gets VERY smoky when it's crowded and it can be difficult to get the bartender's attention even when it's not busy. All in all, I prefer the midcity location, but you gotta love the original...
(4)Kelsey G.
Is there even a need to write a review? Between the location and tap selection, you really can't go wrong. Oh, and there's an outdoor modern beer garden with heat lamps in the winter, sports on when playing, and a cutesy fountain/pond. Win win win win win.
(5)Rob C.
The fact that they have rock bot it is great , but every song you want to play is blocked so it kind of sucks!
(3)Matt H.
So it's been over a half a year and I have to say my last few visits to Bulldog have been excellent. Definitely a different vibe from the staff. A very enjoyable experience all around. Very happy to say Bulldog is back in my top bars in NOLA.
(3)Chance S.
When it comes to uptown, I'm completely clueless on where to go. I was suggested to go here from a friend and I decided to meet up with her here. Upon entering, I knew I wouldn't LOVE the place, but I knew it could be tolerated. I'm accustomed to The Quarter type of atmosphere and dive bars, so this doesn't meet either one of those criteria. I usually frequent places where I'm the youngest person at the place, but the college kids beat me out on holding that title in this place. The bartenders were great and everyone is generally nice. So while I won't ever come to love places like this, I think it is decent and can have a good time here. I would go back just because the person I went with seems to love it, so maybe it can grow on me.
(3)Jeffrey S.
Walked here after the Garden district tour and lunch at Commanders Palace. Great bar! Tons of beer to choose from and the smells coming out of the little kitchen were great. Later read that the bar food was highly rated, wish I ordered something. So many beers, such a beat up liver. Dog friendly too.
(5)Jane S.
This is another one of those places that is a complete mystery to me. Why do people like this place? It's dirty and gross and everyone in there seems like a chode. It smells like date rape. It's like a meeting of the Young Republicans gone bad. The outside seating is kind of nice. I hate the Bulldog.
(2)Lauren E.
So I'm updating my review because the manager emailed me after my first review. They obviously care about providing good service. Also, we went there for the Abita Pub Crawl a few weeks ago. The place was totally packed but it was a fun environment and the bartenders were much more helpful.
(3)Andrew A.
Terrible service. There is one bartender in particular who is a complete dickhead. He's a short white guy with a bunch of piercings in his face and will hassle you for something every time you order a drink. For example, last night I asked if we could get a pitcher of PBR, his response "I can't f*cking hear you" while shaking his head and looking me in the eye . After I repeated my order again he again used an obscenity and very rudely explained to me they don't do pitcher because of the special running tonight. Then walks away. This guy is a total whip it/Deftones casualty. Even when this place is busy and with 5 bartenders on the floor they can't handle the load. They are complete noobs. The complications further when you factor in that they are all kind of ugly. Which begs the question, how did you all get jobs here? Last night was my last night here.

This is my new neat little hang out on Magazine Street. I met a few friends here and hung out on the patio. They are dog friendly, which means you will often see a few pooches hanging out with you too. I love good beer and Bulldog has the best selection I've seen in New Orleans so far. A ton of beer on draft along with a decent bottle list, plus a few rotating taps with seasonal/special brews. If you are up to the challenge, you tackle there 50 beer challenge. They punch off a number on a key chain for each beer you get and you get a free t-shirt when you get done. The bartenders have always been really helpful and attentive. Check it out if you're ever in the area, you wont be disappointed.

Great place! Great service! Awesome selection of beer! Will definitely return in the future!

beer as you know was good. food was a complete surprise. that dude back there knows how to cook. me and the wife got several things and all was really good. also just an fyi, we went after the nola brewery tour. it was mini beer fest day.

Great spot. On hopping Magazine Street, The Bulldog offers a countless and varied beer selection and a pretty fantastic outdoor patio (equipped with heat lamps for those chilly 65 degree NOLA nights -- you spoiled jerks!). Nothing quite like sipping some delicious Paulaner on tap, perfectly poured, while checking out a bad ass water fountain made of all of Bulldog's draft options. Oh, did I mention they have James Boag's? They have James Boag's. First round on me!
(4)Ian S.
Great spot. We went for Happy Hour and they had drink a pint, keep the glass. Great beer list, helpful servers, and most importantly every beer we ordered they had ready. Nothing sold out. The beer garden was beautiful, and the crowd was young and fun. Prices were good, and although we didnt eat the menu looked good and the food sure looked and smelled good. If I lived in NOLA I would drink here all the time. The good thing is I have about eight really nice, different pint glasses to remember an awesome night. Great, great spot.
(5)Kevin H.
Great beer options and pretty good food too. Bring your dog and sit out on the patio!
(4)Jessica F.
I'm usually not a huge fan of bars or anything, but my friend convinced me that this was the place to be at on Wednesday nights. Try the Purple Haze. And maybe order some french fries to go along with it. I liked sitting outside, but the place gets packed, inside and outside, by 9pm. I do like that you can keep your pint glass on Wednesday nights! =) I just wish there was more outdoor seating.
(4)Mike P.
Heard a lot about this place coming to visit, all about the extensive beer lists and such, and let me tell you that they do have a very impressive beer list. Went with a group of 6 and it might have been a little to much. It didnt take long to order and get drinks but it did take quite a bit of effort to get to the bar to order, then a little more to get back to where where we were without spilling any of the drinks, which didnt happen. Apparently there is an outside area with a fountain. Which looks pretty nice. My friend who was a local said that when thats open its not as crowded but unfortunatly for us it was raininng that night. From what i saw i would say its worth trying out and i would definatly be willing to give it another shot to see how it is.

Love that you can bring your dog. GREAT selection of beer. On the pricey side. Pretty good bar food including my favorite--Buffalo wings with blue cheese and celery. They give you a beeper so you don't have to wait around for your food. Really nice outdoor space with a fountain. The change goes to an animal charity. I like that there are foot pulls on the doors so you don't have to get your hands all germ-y when you go to the restroom or in and out of the patio area. I also like the fun free bar games on the tv, lol. Happy hour has decent deals and take your pint glass home on Wednesday. For every 2 glasses you return they'll donate money to an animal shelter. They have contest every now and then that sound fun also. During football season if you were there to watch the Saints, you would get the percentage that Saints beat their opponents off your bill. So if the score was 14-7, you got 50% off your bill. I hope they continue this and I'll be the biggest Saints fan.
(4)David B.
Tons of beers on tap. Also, pretty solid late-night food. My roommates and I are still pretty much exclusively using bulldog pint glasses even though I haven't lived in New Orleans for 3+ years. Favorites are: Wednesday night, you get to keep your pint glasses

Good beer, atmosphere & location.

As it turns out, this Bulldog doesn't suck when it's not insanely crowded. Which is to say, try not to go on a Wednesday night (or any night when they're running one of their arguably-too-popular specials). Unless you are in dire need of glassware (on Wednesdays you get to keep all your pint glasses, which is a great reason to drink lots of beer). Yes, this is awesome, and yes, I need pint glasses. However, I'd almost rather brave the Walmart than contend with the hordes of frat boys and the girls who love them than do the Bulldog on a Wednesday night. Especially the Magazine St. Bulldog. That said, when it's not packed, this Bulldog is actually kind of pleasant. The staff is nice, the courtyard is amazing, they have good bar food, and one of the best beer selections in the city. If they weren't all the way Uptown, or if I hadn't moved from Uptown, I would totally give them four stars. Maybe someday.

This bar tends to get high praise, but I was grossed out by the place. My cousin took me here on a slow night during Christmas break. The first bar we went to closed up early, so we had to find a fresh watering hole. This place was certainly not fresh. As we sat at the bar little cockroaches started climbing out from behind the computer they use to put in drink order/pay tabs. I knocked my hand on the bar and they turned away. My cousin responded with "They know what's good for 'em.". Too funny, but really gross. I get the cockroach has a stronghold on this city, but how can you not take care of pest control in a bar/restaurant. Super gross. *

+ pretty wide selection of beers! + keep your pint glass on wed nights! (yes, I used the singular, b/c I get drunk fast!) + cool outdoor seating area with an awesome fountain + reminds me of my fave bar in berkeley, trip rox

A nice sunny weekend afternoon puts me in the mood for the Bulldog patio. Unfortunately, it puts everyone else Uptown in that same mood. Yes, the Bulldog has a good selection of beers on tap, cool tap fountain on the patio, pretty decent food, and is in close proximity to crawfish (Big Fisherman) that you can eat on the patio. However, I think the inside is pretty bleak. It's always dark, usually kind of crowded, and the bartenders are not the friendliest in the world. My advice is to come to the Bulldog on a nice afternoon during the week- not a Wednesday! Grab a pitcher (limiting your trips to the bleakness inside) and hopefully you and your companions can find a table in a corner of the patio (and not at the picnic table). Enjoy your beers and food in the warm sun before the rush occurs at night and go home happy.
(3)Carolyn J.
Outdoor patio is the spot to chill, I wish Boston had something like this. Ideal for Sunday Funday, watching games, sampling seasonal beers, a good mingle scene and friendly bar staff. Dog friendly, I think as there was one chilling in the bar. Screens for game viewing outside.
(3)Nathaniel S.
So, I live right down the street from The Bulldog, which means I ought to frequent it... right? Wrong. I have been here a few times but each time I am put off by it. I get it - you give away free glasses on Wednesday, but that is not enough to get me to endure the craziness that mobs the bar on those nights. One Star - Location. This is not helpful to all people reading this. Primarily it just helps me. It is close to my hosue. Two Stars - Large beer selection. Props to that. Minus one star - the patio is often far too crowded. I have to pay attention to my backside running into a guys pint will my frontside runs into a ladies cheese fries. There are better outdoor drinking/eating locations in the city. Minus two stars - I have had several rude encounters with the bartenders. It might just be a product of how busy it was, but there was more than one instance. Minus three stars - I just think there are better bars in the city. Try Balcony Bar where the bartenders and bouncers are nice. Or Tracey's where the food is superb and the drinks are drinks
(2)Jamila L.
Are you in the mood for a drink ? Beer? How about some bar food? Ok this is your place.
(3)Max K.
i visited during the week around mid-day during our recent visit to New Orleans. A friend of mine took a "what New Orleans bar are you? on Facebook, and ended up with "The Bulldog"; I'm so glad he did, because their beer assortment/selection is top notch! I drank Abita's and they were perfect for the humid summer day I was there. If I'm back in town, I'll definitely come by this place again. PS Beware The Kitchen Nazi; he said to my friend, "hurry up man I only have a few seconds", when he asked him what he wanted to order. I understand he was by himself, one man show in the kitchen, but c'mon guy, there's a better way to say it.
(5)Spenser K.
The Bulldog is great, but this location is not as good as the one in Mid-City because every time I go here, I feel like a sardine crammed in to a can. Does that say that it's popular? Yeah. But the one in Mid-City, seems to accommodate the same crowd without packing us in. All that said, the beer here is still great, the bartenders friendly and willing to serve, and the specials (particularly the Wednesday night one) completely worth enjoying. All in all, a great bar, but go to Mid-City instead. It's less crowded, the outdoor seating is more spacious, and I simply like it more.
(3)Larry B.
I use to really like this place years ago... I stopped going because of the new crowd... not only very packed but it got pretty yuppy. The food was awesome pub food and had a Great selection of beer. I always liked taking my dogs after going to the levee all day but I would not take them now... it is too crowded and they (the customers) look at you like you are a criminal if you walk up to a place that is dog friendly (and also named the Bulldog) and you own pit bulls... go figure. I hear the mid city one is way better these days so I'll have to check it out... I know management is Happy with the magazine location do to the crowd and all... I just wish we had our cool little chill spot back. Props to the owners for their successful pub.
(3)Henry N.
I really, really, REALLY wanted to like this place. For years my neighborhood friends and I had been going every Sunday for the Saints games, mainly because it was close by and I do like their wings. The beer prices have always been on the high side, but I swallowed that because it was so close to where we lived. But time and time again I have been treated rudely by one or more of the waitstaff, despite the fact that me and my friends consistently dropped over $300 at this place every week for years during football season. The last straw was when they wouldn't accept a coupon that I received from them, saying it had to be printed out instead of showing it to them on my iPhone. I walked out and all my friends with me. Obviously they don't need our money.

I really like this bar, and the funny thing is, it's not really my type. I guess I like going to dive bars (a la Snake and Jake, NOLA style) and every time I come to the Bulldog it's packed with bros (or breauxs for you cajun folk). But there is something just great about this bar. I've only been two or three times, but each time has been fun. Big beer selection, Andygator on tap is AWESOME, great place to watch the Saints play, and yummy bar food in case you've been chuggin too many brews. The bartenders aren't overly friendly, but who cares really. I'm probably too preoccupied with making a fool of myself to random patrons anyway. If I lived in NOLA I'd probably definitely be a regular here.
(4)Melissa E.
One of my favorite places to get a happy hour beer if you're lucky enough to score a seat outside on the patio. They have a great beer selection!! If I'm running low on pints at home, I go on Wednesdays, when you can take home your pints after you drink your beer. It's their way of keeping fresh stock of unchipped glasses I guess. They also change the logo on the pints often. I've gotten cool Nola ones as well as Christmas special pints. The inside is kind of dark and smoky, but the bathrooms are pretty clean, which is always a plus!!

Love going Thursday nights with my husband and dog!
(4)Hayley M.
I often fantasize about frolicking through a fountain of Abita. The Bulldog is the closest I can come to that, since they have a fountain and the water comes out of Abita taps. This joint is the epitome of Nola dive bars; dark, cheap, and with an insane collection of beers. My love affair with The Bulldog started many years ago, when I often, er, borrowed their hilarious pint glasses, which had the bars logo and hilarious sayings/facts about New Orleans. Now I am older, wiser, and can afford my own cups, and I just go to enjoy a cheap pitcher. In fact, when my roommate and I flew in to Nola, we took a cab from the airport directly to The Bulldog, suitcases and all. We sat outside, enjoyed the sun and a few Abitas, and waited for our friends to get out of work. Can't think of a better place to kill an afternoon.
(4)Rene D.
We've all been to this type of place: lots of beer on tap, electronic trivia, some scorecard to prove you can drink massive amount of beers from 'round the world and spend $$$ there to do so. There's a patio, a complicated system to order food, and it appears to be popular. The staff has its charm, but you kinda have to dig to find it if it's busy. So, here's my likes...um...it's not far from home. Dislikes: bar food is quite ordinary, and I was sad to be sober while eating my burger. I'm sure it would have been fantastic if I were drunk. Bartender didn't know how to make a vodka gimlet. Went outside to get a break from the smoking. It happened to be raining outside, and the owner decides the protective tarp should be no longer be protective to said patrons. So, back into the smoky bar... The deal-breaker: if paying with plastic, an automatic 18% will be added to your tab, regardless of the size of your party. I'm sure I'll find a place to love down here, but the search is still onward and upward.
(2)Meggie W.
The Bulldog patterned itself as my perennial first stop when I'm in my favorite city. The beer selection is out of this world (and will be when possible.) I appreciate the chance to sample the brews before committing to a $5 pint. We've all been stuck with an extra stout that just won't go down now haven't we? The staff is quick to take orders though I wouldn't mind if they were a tad more conversational during non peak hours (don't you judge me.) I could, and have, spent many an afternoon watching football here and it does get extremely crowded, i.e. standing room only, so arrive early because indoor seating is limited. If you love beer, dogs, and beer, The Bulldog is for you!
(4)Justin R.
I always have fun here. They have a really great beer selection. The patio is awesome, unless its insanely packed, which is most of the time. Great for chillin out with friends on a nice breezy night. The bartenders and not nice at all. Especially one guy! Always gives me attitude. Sorry you hate your job so much! I hear the bar food here is pretty awesome, but never have had it. Pint night on Wednesday is great. They let you keep all of your glasses!
(3)Jill S.
Is it just me or is this place ALWAYS crowded? Or do I only come here on Wednesdays? Free pint glass Wednesday, grab yoself a souvenir or twenty, or donate them back and they'll give a couple bucks to the animal shelters. I can't think of any charitable activity better than beer drinking. Sign up for their newsletter and you'll get BOGO's on your birthday and signing up anniversary, which is a nice gesture to loyal customers. Re: food, I don't think I've ever had anything but the crawfish eggroll, and I remember it being way bigger than an eggroll should be and just as delicious as you think it would be. Could be they've revamped the menu (or at least the styling on the menu) since then though. Dog-friendly patio, cool beer-tap fountain, wide selection... one of my Magazine mainstays!
(4)Kristine R.
As if people needed more encouragement to drink more beer, here's another incentive: keep your collectible pint glass from The Bulldog on Wednesday nights. Brilliant! Even more brilliant? Have a large variety of designs on the pint glasses so that patrons will want to buy more beer in order to expand their collection. Why isn't this common practice at more bars?? NYC bar owners, take note! Our threesome each ordered a different beer on our first round, so we each scored three unique designs. I wasn't too keen on my naked fat lady design, but managed to switch with a friendly dude at the bar who happened to be drinking Blue Moon, too. By the end of the night, we had ordered 6 beers amongst the three of us, and adopted three abandoned pint glasses that were left at the bar. We kept hoping for different designs (the colorful fleur de lis would have been a trophy!), but ended up with the most common "Drink more beer!" paw print design. I imagine if you've been frequenting The Bulldog for awhile, bringing home glasses gets pretty old. But since we were all visiting New Yorkers, the novelty didn't wear off by the end of the night. Then again, I am easily amused by such things. We also had fun playing the Buzzline Trivia game, and managed to rank 7th nationally (!!) by our third round. Again, why aren't there more bars in NYC that offer the Buzzline Trivia game? That would definitely lure me in and make me a repeat customer. Oh, and the beer selection was pretty impressive. It was a little too dark in there for me to be able to read all the different beers they had on tap, but I had the Abita Amber later in the night and really enjoyed it. Always nice to drink a local beer in a local bar. Lastly, if you buy a collectible pint glass ($4) the entire proceeds go to the local SPCA. A bar that gives back to the local community - yet another incentive to "Drink More Beer!"
(4)Courtney A.
This is the place to go if you want to kick back outside and enjoy a draft beer. The draft selection is unparalleled in New Orleans. The outdoor patio is ideal. The surrounding trees envelope patrons from the street traffic. If I am stuck inside, it's not a bad thing thanks to the TV trivia game. Wednesday's special of Keep Your Pint Glass stocked my new apartment. Although this means the pub is packed full with no open seating unless you arrived super early. I also believe that the food is the best bar food in New Orleans. The Lazy Magnolia Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich is, in my opinion, the best BBQ sandwich in NOLA. I order one about once a week, with some waffle fries. The Amberjack cheese fries are great if you have been endurance drinking.
(3)Angela C.
Keep your pint glass on Wednesday nights is pure genius, especially with all the different designs that Bulldog puts on their pint glasses. You are definitely tempted to drink more and see which design the bartender bestows upon you next. The selection of drafts to choose from is pretty impressive, so it further encourages you to drink more beer and get more glasses. It's a pretty good deal too since my Abita Amber was $4 and the pint glass alone is $4 on any other night. The next great idea after this is starting a support group for people who are obsessed with collecting Bulldog pint glasses. My friends and I had a great time at The Bulldog. We met some fun people, and really enjoyed playing Buzzline Trivia. My friends even scored high enough one round to place nationally... their moms would've been so proud. It's a busy crowd on Wednesday night, but coming from NYC that's expected at any worthwhile bar. I'll be back to collect some more glasses for sure!
(4)Ellen C.
I think I may actually like the Mid City location more, as it has more tolerable clientele and is usually less crowded, but I've been to this one more so I'll be reviewing it. First thing's first - they are adamant about the carding here, as with most places on Magazine. So don't even think about it, kiddos. Upon entry you'll observe this is a pretty typical pub set-up. This isn't a particularly spacious venue, even with the adorable little courtyard area with the beer tap water fountain. On busier evenings, such as $5 beer/free pint glass Wednesday, expect a pretty thick layer of people to weave in and out of to reach your particular destination or where you'll be standing for the next 15-30 minutes until you spot someone finally leaving and you'll then have to be prepared to tuck and roll into their former place. You think I kid? You'd be wrong. This place does serve liquor as well, but it's main draw is its plentiful and varied beer drafts. Delicious, scrumptious, carbilicious beer! Hence the particular demographics it draws in. Speaking of which during the evenings, the patrons consists mostly of undergraduate students, it seems, with a few law students sprinkled in here and there. No real young professional crowds for sure. So yeah, it's a rather wody crowd and if that's not your thing - seek out the Mid City location. During the day, especially the weekends, there seems to be a more mature crowds and student seem to be keen on dragging their parents here for a few drinks in the courtyard amidst tourist-ing. I don't recall this place having any waitresses, but the bartenders are usually pretty prompt and well-staffed. Bulldog does also offer your usual greasy bar fare of burgers, fries, and things of that nature. I've never tried any of the food, but my friends always seem to rather enjoy it. Of course they are usually consuming Bulldog food because they are ravenous after consuming several pints of beer. I do like this place, minus the sometimes unbearable crowds. If you're into beer, a lot of freaking beer, please do stop by here. Or again, the Mid City location. It'd rather come here on a weekend than a Wednesday to be honest. But if I never ever came here again, no tears would be shed.
(3)Andrew J.
Discovered this chill locals' spot last Friday night, my first time ever in NOLA. Didn't try the food but consumed a few pitchers of Abita Fall Fest ($11) in the outdoor courtyard. The Magazine St. corridor is a great alternative to the French Quarter. I'll be back!
(4)Becca A.
Huge selection of beer? Check. Outdoor seating? Check. Adequate menu? Check. I've frequented The Bulldog on a couple of occasions, and all have been fun. It's great for watching a game with a couple buddies, or an evening of drinking on the patio, or whatever would fall between the two. It's a step above dive-y without creeping into stuffy territory.
(4)Johnny D.
I went to this place on a whim while on business trip in New Orleans. It looked like a interesting place from the outside, and was! A real bar with a great selection of beer! We went there on Pint Night where you can keep the pint glasses you drink out of. Worked out well as they made great travel gifts for friends upon my return home. Beer was excellent and ambiance was good for a local bar. We had a great time there, so I have no complaints. Prices were good, so folks saying they charge too much for beer and food haven't traveled to a big city in their lives. Two of us drank four pints each and had some bar food, all for ~$50 plus tip. And eight pint glasses to go!
(5)Paula E.
*sigh* I recently reviewed a beer joint in my current town and it made me reminiscent of all of the good times I've had at the Bulldog. Honestly guys, you don't know how lucky you are to have not one, but two of these joints in your city, don't take it for granted. Sure now that I live in Miami, I have places that have 118 beers on tab but are ridiculously overrated, give me the classic 30 draft selection from the Bulldog any day and I'll be a happy camper. Just enough of a selection to make a difference, but small enough to hit the comfort zone. Talking about comfortable, I dream about the chilly afternoons at the outdoor terrace, when they would turn on the fire pit and you could sit with your buddies enjoying the amazing weather and beer. And what about spring time? when you could grab a couple of lbs. of crawfish from Fishermans' across the street and bring them over to share them with friends over a pitcher of Abita Amber? And if all this wasn't heart breaking enough, how about their weekly specials?? My favorite was $4 pint night on Wednesdays, when you could take those awesome glasses home. I had a sturdy collection in my apartments' kitchen. It broke my heart having to sell them back before moving, but I couldn't take them out of the town, those glasses belonged to New Orleanians. And wait...those wedges!!! with cheese, when you are drunk they are the closest thing to heaven, almost as good as their tex-mex rolls with the kickass creole mayonnaise!!! AAHHHH Seriously guys, if I still lived there, I'd be there every day...I love the staff there, a bunch of free-spirits and artist (but who isn't in New Orleans really)...go grab a beer in my honor, I'll be there in spirit.
(5)Amelia Y.
If you want to grab a beer, a burger, and/or catch a Saints game, The Bulldog is your kind of place! It's in a fun boutiquey neighborhood uptown and is the perfect place for lunch or dinner. A huge beer selection, great burgers, and a fun atmosphere makes this a fun hot spot for Tulane students, so it's a pretty fun place to check out or make a regular destination!
(4)Steph C.
Sitting in the crowded patio of the Bulldog with a $4 Abita in my hand, I caught up with a friend from high school who I hadn't seen in the last couple of years. It was just the setting for a leisurely catch-up - a warm night, a tall glass of beer, reasonable quiet and privacy even in a dense and lively crowd. The Bulldog offered vibrancy and buzz without a shred of obnoxiousness, and they even threw in a free glass, all because it was a Wednesday. Cheers all around.
(4)Kyle P.
I went there last night for a friends birthday, and had a great time. Tons of beers on tap, and super friendly bartenders. Sarah and Roy were especially great and made the night. Definitely recommend everyone to go!
(5)Paul R.
Ahh, the Bulldog! I do love the Bulldog and although I really, really wanted to award this Magazine St. tavern a 5 star rating, I remembered the bathrooms. More on that later. Let's get to the meat of this thing, shall we? Bulldog is conveniently located on Magazine St., right on the corner of Pleasant St. Since my discovery of this gem back in early 2005, many-a-night have I spent getting ripped in this place. I mean, it's very easy to do. I remember it before they built the courtyard. Oh yeah, I'm skipping ahead. More on that in a bit. Bulldog reminds me of an old English pub. It's dimly lit, the walls are adorned with relics, including an award plaque for those brave souls who manage to soldier through 50 various beers on the bar's incredibly extensive tap. There are a few large tables and stools, as well as an abundance of stools at the face of the bar. There are also several large screen flat-panel televisions mounted to the walls above the bar so you never have to miss a game (oh, look, figure skating championships are on! That damn Tonya Harding! I'll never forgive her!) Bulldog is well known for their assortment of brews but I don't think enough recognition is given to the tavern eats. The burgers are really great and the cooks will prepare them any way you want them. I've noticed a lot of the time that their tip jars are near empty so let's not forget to put some money in the hat! Waffle fries are equally awesome in any form, plain or smothered in cheese and chili. There have been times in the past where I came here just for some good ol' tavern food. It's really just that good. Once you've placed an order, the bartender validates it and you're given a buzzer. When your buzzer starts hopping, your food is available for pickup at the window. Easy as pie! I'm not much of a beer drinker (so what the hell am I doing in here??) so I usually head straight for more abrasive alcohols. Due to this, I can't comment much on the beers available, flavor, etc. Sorry about that! I have had a few in the past and I'll testify that they were good. I also want to add that Thursday night is when they pour brews in custom mugs that you get to keep! That's right, you can take them home with you, as many as you can carry! Tell your friends! I've got to say that I love the interior and the surroundings, though. I'm not sure what it is about this place but everything just seems so packed close that you're not in a bar anymore, but in a company of friends. You get a lot of business folks, college/med students, construction workers, you name it. It's very, very easy to be seated in there, minding your own business and suddenly strike up a conversation with someone you've never met. It's an atmosphere that seems to embrace that notion. It's also what I've always enjoyed most about the Bulldog. You're just in the local bar, hanging amongst your brothers and sisters. The courtyard has been there for a few years now but I remember when it was nothing but a messy parking lot. It's a nice addition and welcomed during the most beautiful days of summer and fall. There are an abundance of tables and chairs (with umbrellas for shade) so no need to fight over seating. There's plenty to go around. I think there are even picnic tables near the wall. Now, here's what I don't like and the reason why I had to dock a star. To begin, Bulldog allows smoking. Again, this is not an issue unless the joint is packed with customers but if you're like me, one or two people can sour a situation pretty quick. Until about 9-10 PM, you should be fine and sitting happy in clean air. After that time, however, it gets pretty smokey. The other issue, and it's a big one to me (and has bothered me for years!) is the condition of the men's restroom. Overall, I would say Bulldog is a pretty clean establishment. The restroom, however, has been overlooked for years and I can't understand why. Every time I go in, it hits me like a horrible memory. The bathrooms are always absolutely wrecked. Paper all over the place, the floor is mysteriously wet (??), the stall has no door on it and there are also no individual urinals. What is in their place is a large trough for inebriated men to stumble up to and dowse....and even then, their aim is not very good. You'd think after all these years, they'd be trained marksmen but....oh well. It really makes me ill. Bulldog has class everywhere else but it seems like that is forgotten once you step into the restroom. If you've never been here, make it a point to visit sometime. If you have been already, check it out again just for fun! It never gets dull!

Last night (Thur 27 June) was our last night to vacation in New Orleans. We wandered in the Bulldog for a night cap. We were greeted by a very friendly and knowledgable bar staff. While the entire staff was friendly, talkative and helpful, one in particular (Chris, I believe) helped guide us through a tasty array of local craft beer. His knowledge of craft beer and local beer in particular helped to create a wonderful send off for us. Wish we had you in Austin. We look forward to returning to New Orleans and the Bulldog. We had a great time. Thank you. Jefe

My review won't be terribly expansive because I basically went there for the free pint glasses. The Bulldog gives you a free pint glass filled with beer for $5 on Wednesdays, and my friend needed to restock his kitchen cupboard. We got there around 6 and were able to get seats in the super nice outdoor space, but it got pretty crowded after that. There is a nice fountain which provides soothing sounds and there are dogs everywhere (hence the name, I believe). Make sure you are a dog person if you are going, or drink enough beforehand to not care. PINT GLASS RATINGS: They all have pretty nice designs. We got a bunch with a rainbow fleur-de-lis, but there were also a few with the fancy Bulldog logo. They are quite fragile, so DO NOT STACK THEM. It will only end in tears and shattered glass. If you return the glass, I think The Bulldog donates $2 to an animal shelter of some sort. Side note: The waffle fries were really yummy, and the hummus+pita came with fried pita chips, which was interesting. Standard bar fare.

Would have gotten a solid 5 stars if the inside didn't wreak of dirty smoke. BUT...lets discuss the good. I've been to a shit-ton of bars in my life but this my friends is something special. Can anyone tell me how many beers they have, cause it was an incredible amount. I could have moved right in and had a different beer for each day of the year. I stuck to an oldie but goodie, Anchor Steam on tap. We also got food, it was fried goodness. Chicken fingers go so well with beer. A match made in the heavens if you ask me. The beer fountain outside is pretty solid - if it only spewed real beer so I could take off my clothes and roll around in it.
(4)Todd D.
My brother and I stop here every time I come to town to visit. Always crowded, but fun, a little loud like most bars. Great beer selection in N.O.!
(4)JR D.
BOTTOM LINE AT THE TOP - A great place to grab a bite if you're on Magazine St. Whether you're looking for a warm outdoor patio to sip on one of their 30 plus beer selections, or a dark corner of a dark-wood tavern to munch on some great bar snacks, the bulldog's got you covered. They've got a great selection of local brews, and, true to their name there patio is dog-friendly, if not a little cluttered with seating.

first of all, i'd like to thank yelp as a whole for suggesting pretty much every single place we ate, drank, and... did stuff while in NOLA. we'd just finished a day of doing touristy stuff and were ready for a beer. let's be honest, we were pretty much ready for a beer when we got out of bed at 10am. i mean 1pm. and this place did NOT disappoint with the beer. they had a huge selection of bottles and a fair amount of drafts from all over the world. i would have appreciated a few more of the belgian variety, but that's a personal preference. i always judge a beer place based on how many of them i've had, and i'd had about 3/4 of the menu. normally this would be off-putting, but in this case, that still left about 30 that i'd never tried. we got a couple of apps, and they had this funny system of ordering. you have to go to sort of a fast-food counter near the front and then go back and pick up your food there, and give them the name of your tab so it can be added to your bar tab. my boyfriend did the running around for me (thanks, boyfriend) and he was a bit put off by some rudeness on the part of the order-taker (chef? cashier?), but it certainly wasn't enough to dampen out experience, and the food (hummus with pita chips and veggies) was delicious! the place was dimly lit but had high enough ceilings and was well laid-out enough not to feel stuffy. friendly bartenders and a second room for live music and dancing, as well as a few cozy tables made it a great establishment for all different groups or occasions.
(4)Jill W.
I come in here when it's not packed with college student tools. Food is tasty. I like the patio.
(3)Jeremy L.
Same as the other Bulldog in Mid City. Great beer selection and good food. Drawback here is the lack of space. WAY too small. Patio is sweet but gets way too crowded. And I wish people would pick up after their dogs when they crap.
(3)Mary D.
Recently moved to NYC - and so miss Friday nights at the Bulldog! A least I have a number of Bulldog glasses to remind me of the great times.
(5)Chris T.
It has a great beer selection. Small compared to the other Bulldog, but fun.
(4)Kimmie R.
Oh, The Bulldog, The Bulldog. I love, love, love the food, and the enormous drink selection. However, be prepared for some seriously surly service. You place your order at a little window, with people who are always angry at the world. The bartenders are tired and over you, too. BUT, the food is fantastic, and the outside seating, on the patio, is worth it. Delicious burgers, and the drinks...well, anything you want, and they have lots of drink specials. They are usually the first to get the Abita seasonals, as well. Be sure to notice the amazingly clever fountain on the patio.
(4)Erin V.
Bulldog is the ultimate local beer place. Wednesday nights are a must go for the local university crowd. Great beer selection and nice patio. Great location on Magazine. Always a fun time!
(4)Veronica R.
Thank god for NoLa natives, cause with this many bars in one city, it takes a seasoned veteran to tell you the best places to meet your tolerance limit. Three words: Beer Tap Fountain. Yes, a fountain spewing forth glorious liquid (sorry alchies, it's just water for this one), out of an uncountable number of taps atop a brick wall on the patio. Lets just say, the beer gods would be proud. Bow down and pray, you unworthy souls! The Bulldog represents one of those bars you go to at the far end of your night when you're not necessarily looking for any experience more than a damn good nightcap (and a beer fountain, DUH). A decent dive on the interior, the ambiance changes immediately as you move out to the patio and soak up the a) humidity, b) social scene and c) say it with me now, fountain-o-beer (taps). They maintain their reputation with an extensive list, including two kinds of Shiner Bock (+2 stars!) and Leffe (one more star!). I have no idea what the food is like, but again, I wouldn't see myself coming here at any point other than one where I simply needed liquor. The last and final star goes to the announcement at the end of the night that it was "take home your glass night." Say wha? Yup - every Wednesday night you keep your pint glass - and then you collect all the others so that your entire apartment is nothing but pint glasses from The Bulldog. Best-promotion-ever. Needless to say, free souvenirs and damn good ones at that! Thanks, Bulldog, for knowing I'm poor and greedy. And thanks to you, full of kickass beer.
(4)Ben K.
The patio here is kind of like someone decided they didn't want to take the time to set up a seating plan so they just threw a bunch of tables and chairs down and said "eh the customers can figure it out." And figure it out they do. The patio is a great spot to sit outside and have a drink, and with the absurdly large selection of draft beers, you are sure to be able to find something you want. As a bonus, they have all the taps lined up on display outside so you can pick what you want before going in to order! So head on in and grab a spot in the sun, and commence conversatin and people watchin.
(4)Kevin O.
Dogs at a bar? That's really cool right? Yes. If you disagree you are a communist. Good selection of beer. Good location on Magazine. Good Patio for chilling out. Decent bar food.
(4)Errick F.
I like it.....it's one of the great reasons to move to the Magazine st area. I stopped in on a wed night to grab a bite. Next thing i know i was full from a mushroom swiss burger with bacon. Then beer, then beer, then bier, then bear.....whoa! french fries sober me up lol. I had to start the 50 beer challenge cause I need an excuse to go back. Plus it had a great bar menu i feel compelled to try more of. The wed nite special is unique though, keep your pint glass. I think i can start a really big collection or have a reminder of how much of a lush i can be. The patio area is huge and makes for a good gathering of folks which is inviting in it's self. I defiantly wouldn't mind becoming a reg.
(5)Jennifer B.
Good beer, nice people and outdoor seating. The cook is kind of a jerk but just snarl back and it's all good :)
(4)Lawrence Z.
Beers from around the world!
(4)Amanda V.
Drink prices weren't too bad. Really loud inside. I didn't order any of the food. Outside, it's a nice place to sit and talk. That draft fountain is pretty cool. The tables are super close to each other. There are a lot of tables though. It's nice that someone comes around and clears the tables of empty cups. I will probably return if I'm looking for a place to just hang out.
(3)Ellen H.
We popped in for a quick pint, the first stop of our tour of New Orleans last weekend for JazzFest. It was a local fave of our old college buddy, who's been down there for about 5 years. It was Thrusday afternoon, we met his buddy on the patio and enjoyed the weather, the pints, and the creative beer tap fountain on the patio. We didn't stay long enough for food, but I would easily go back. We really enjoyed the Magazine street vibe, and we frequented quite a few places along that stretch.
(4)John R.
Not bad. Big beer selection. Some great stuff. More common good stuff. Beer lovers place. Beer snobs, not so much. Would be alot better if it were smoke-free. Outdoor patio is great. Staff was pretty attentive.
(3)A Q.
Great beer selection, awesome patio, good nachos, bad 90's music (311?) played too loudly by bro bartenders, and lots of aspiring lawyers and doctors.
(3)Rocky K.
Ehhh. Their cooking staff was a bit surly (can we call that charm?). The bar itself was a bit too 'bro' for me. But it was Mardi Gras weekend so I guess the tools come out in full force. Nothing special though, but for the area, the burgers were decent.
(3)Valentina M.
This place is one of my favorites in nola. The draft selection is great, the people that go there are nice and friendly. Wednesdays are the best, and you get to keep your pint glasses which always have different cool designs. The best place to sit is in the patio. Dogs are welcome :)
(4)Elizabeth L.
nice beer garden where you can enjoy crawfish from Big Fisherman across the street - great draft selection including a delicious strawberry Abita. decent pulled pork with seasoned waffle fries.
(4)Karlin F.
Two words: Pint Night You can keep your pint glasses on Wednesday nights. And you can keep as many as you drink. You could stock your entire kitchen. Also, there is a HUGE selection of beer. And you can bring your dog. This place is fantastic.
(4)Betsy S.
Had a lovely lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. We sat outside and had the patio all to ourselves. I ordered the Mahi Mahi sandwich with guacamole -- absolutely delicious. The cook was extremely friendly. I don't think you're allowed to be a bartender here if you're friendly, but they've always made my drink quickly.
(4)Paul B.
I have a special place in my heart for this bar. The one night I was here ended up being the real crowbar that pried me out of my shell. It was half-way through a working trip to New Orleans with one good friend and a bunch of total strangers, and we were letting off a ton of stress. My brain and body were tired; my spirit flagging. I arrived a little late to the party, and the place was completely packed. I discovered an actual budding love of beer there. It started with a pint from a pitcher at a table out back, under heat lamps. It was quickly decided that food must follow, so I went inside to order. Upon nearing the bar, a pint was thrust into my hands. The third and fourth I somehow ended up double-fisting while waiting for the food to arrive. I think the fifth arrived shortly after via a second-hand bar order. All these were on tap, excellent pours... Flying Dog, Franziskaner, Warstener: good stuff. I did, eventually, get food and return to the table, with some wobble in my step. I have no idea whether the food was good, but it certainly disappeared quickly. I seem to remember the theme song from The Dukes Of Hazzard playing in the restroom. The night was loud, crowded, rowdy, and drunken. It's not the kind of thing that I'd necessarily go for every night, but at that point in time, it was exactly what the doctor ordered. I left rejuvenated.
(5)Kalani C.
Place was packed on a Sunday night. No place to hang, so we stood outside on the sidewalk with our beers. Impressive beer selection on tap. Introduced my girl friends to Belgian lambic, they loved it. Service was attentive enough given the crowds.
(4)Chris L.
Great beer garden, decent bar food (burgers, fries, chx sandwiches), knowledgeable barkeeps.
(4)K D.
Loved going here on Wednesday when I was in college. I still have a good amount of the glasses I collected. Good beer selection.
(3)Travis N.
The Bulldog uptown used to be one of my favorite places to go on a beautiful day during crawfish season. You used to be able to buy crawfish across the street and bring them into the patio area, and enjoy beer from the Bulldog along with your crawfish, all the while enjoying the beautiful New Orleans spring. Recently, we were surprised to find out that they no longer allow outside food, including crawfish. Their food is decent enough, I've never had anything I haven't enjoyed, but besides the beer selection, there's nothing particularly special about their uptown location if you're no longer allowed to eat your crawfish there. If you want Bulldog food or Bulldog beer selection, check out their Mid-City location. The inside and the outside are so much cleaner, more comfortable, and relaxing than the uptown bar. It's worth the little extra time it may take you to get from uptown for the Mid City ambiance.

I have lived in the Upper Irish Channel, two blocks from the Bulldog, since 05 and I would frequent the place prior to moving to the area, and I would have once given it 5 stars, no questions. The Avenue Pub is the place for a true beer lover now as the Bulldog has decided catering to obnoxious college prats is more profitable and fun than having a soul and being a good neighbor. Beers are WAY to over priced now, even for your average mark-up. Once upon a time they had staff that knew their beer. Cigarette machine doesn't stock American Spirits, ATM as an obnoxious fee for use, where as at Finn's the staff would happily just give the cash and add it to my tab (this wasn't offered when I was one of only two people in the Bulldog) no matter how busy Finn's would be. I can see how they have been a victim to their fame but the difference between success and selling out is evident here. The tacky new brick work and attitude of the ownership leads me to believe they will become just another Balcony Bar, a crappy, second rate place for jocks to liqueur-up before the date raping begins. It would also be nice if they would take the responsibility to ensure the companies that stock the food and drink during the day didn't block Pleasant St. for an hour at a time and trash the neighborhood. I believed this place an asset when I bought in the area, now I would just assume they got their license revoked.

Absolutely appalling service. It was the champions league final and they refused to play the sound of the game, despite the entire bar being full of soccer fans. When asked why, the male bartender responded that he didn't like soccer and that he doesn't think it's a real sport. He told me to find a bartender who cares. I'm sorry but 50 customers are buying beers from you BECAUSE of the game. I suggest after counting his tips that night he bow down and show some respect for the sport that brought his customers there.
(1)Tina C.
Beer fan? Where are you??? Come here beer fan! My GOD this bar has LOADS of beer on tap to keep you satisfied. If your're a beer fan and have been here and don't like it. Um, there's something wrong with your brain :) I like beer, but am the kind of person who drinks one and I am full. :) ( I"m a wine advisor...whatever) So, I like the crowd that comes in here, and I love the area. I miss this area. I do. I lived off magazine st before Katrina. LOVE magazine st. But this is about the dog. Good food, great beer, cool people. xo
(4)Tuna D.
One of the many places the yuppies in town go during the week. On the weekends, the Bulldog nearby Canal Blvd gets full with older folks. I've been to both and I have to say that Magazine has the friendlier bartenders. Foodwise--great huge portions. I love their chicken and avocado sandwich---it's spicy too! Grab some sweet potatoe fries. I have say, if you have the munchies late night---this is your place. Pitcher beers. Parking is a bitch at both locations--it's offstreet and be wary of dark alleyways. Cash, credit, debit accepted. The crowds range on most nights but it's mostly a mature and yuppie crowd. The magazine location is small but the one on Canal is a bit larger in terms of space. Overall, a great place to just hang out with a large crowd of friends---dont expect to get any studying done here.
(2)Cindy G.
Sunday morning at 11:30. The beer was cold and the burger was cooked perfectly and tasted just as good. I would highly recommend for the beer choices. Even though they were getting busy post Mardi Gras marathon..the service was good.
(4)Bryan A.
I was turned away from pascals manalo and jimmy james and another couple places I don't care to mention because they were all closed. I guess with bourbon st so close these folks need mondays to recoup after 4th of july or they spent all night walking down the middle of the street to get home. Nonetheless my cab driver was bewildered by my avoidance of Popeyes and krystals and other fine new orleans establishments. I had him pull over and jumped out to magazine street. There was a pizza place and mexican place in front of me where there were a few folks arguing in front of them so veered left and into the bulldog. It was smoky and dark. There was a long bar stretching down the left hand side flanked by dozens of beer taps. I ordered a local wheat soda and asked for a menu. Like a few other places in town, they have a separate entity patroling the food. You have to order from another window near the front door and ask them to add it to the tab at the bar. Don't fret, there is a lot of weirdness in NOLA. I got an order of their seasoned waffle fries and a buffalo chicken sandwich. A few moments later my infrared remote coaster started buzzing so I went to the window and to my joyous surprise the sandwich was covered in homemade bluecheese dressing. The sandwich-hot and spicy. The dressing- cold and clumpy. I was a litlle hesitant at first but it became a terrific mix as soon as all the smells and aromas collided. I know I am getting a little to descriped, but after getting home around 6:15am from essence festival and sleeping until 3pm I was famished and ready to eat anything. The bulldog features a full 6 page beer menu (both draught and bottle), the normal bar and well choices and of course sazaracs. If you would like to hang around in the outdoors amidst the 100% humidity and hot hot southern sun they sport a fantastic patio right in the heart of Magazine ST.
(3)Genevieve B.
I don't know what My life would be like today had I not somehow ended up at the Bulldog after seein Bauhaus the first night if My first visit to New Orleans, it is partly to credit/blame for one of the closest friendshio/confusing love affairs of My life that... starting from a "one night stand that very night, and spaning 5 years, and actually longer if you count the correspondence after... all over a pitcher of Pear Cider, crawfish taco rolls, bockemstien stuffed muchrooms and and NTN trivia box... Then much later I found out another wonderful thing about the Bulldog... They sell lambics frambois by the pitcher, YES, THE PITCHER!!! And how could I forget the awsome pint glasses I gort there that had a picture of Yoko Ono on them that said "Yoko is A Great Singer" below it . Now, That is a great bar!
(5)Jason W.
Amazing selection of beers. Everything is self service. You order your meal at the grill. Then pay for it at the bar and then head back to the grill where you get a pager and then pick it up when the thing "lights up or something." Large outdoor patio with beer tap (water) fountain is a nice touch. Food was a bit better than other bar food we had in the area. Crowd was relaxed and in their 30s.
(3)Ken H.
Awesome for Wensday nights ! I have a cabniet of just Bulldog pint glasses ! and im not going to stop anytime soon !!!!
(4)Khanh T.
the best beer selection in town only place i can go to enjoy a nice cold pint of optimator.
(5)John P.
Stopped in Saturday before the super bowl. Crowded uptown bar, mostly young'ins but the patio is nice with brick surroundings, taps etc. A little on the "meh" side.
(2)Ramona P.
We had a nice time last night. Brought one of the dogs in their out door beer garden. Husband liked the Woodchuck on draft and the pub style snacks. I just likes the beer garden style seating. A very pleasant experience.
(3)Danielle J.
if you don't like beer or dirty dive bars, this is not a good place to go.
(1)R H.
This is one of the holy stops for beer geeks/snobs in the U.S. With Hundreds, yes Hundreds of beers to chose from. All of their beers are explained on the menu, from country/state or origin, to food pairings, specs on beer like IBU's and such, to a quick description of color, body, head, bouquet, and general flavors. With a beautiful Beer Garden, and knowledgeable staff. It is an enlightening experience for even the most seasoned beer aficionado. It is the "Big Easy", so like almost 100% of the restaurant/Bars in Nawlins, you will wait for service, they are in no hurry. Maybe the best news about The Bulldog is that it is far from Bourbon as you can get and still be in the French Quarter. It is on Magazine st., and the shopping is great. What I'm getting at is that my wife will join me for a beer in the garden, the whole time looking for Brad Pit and A. Jolie to ride by on their bikes(as they are known to frequent Magazine on nice days). Then she will go shop, leaving me to my beautiful Beers in a perfect southern setting.
(5)W G.
awesome spot on magazine street. if you consider yourself a beer connoisseur: 1) do not talk to me and 2) you'll probably fall in love with this place. they told me they clean the tap lines "once a week" which is 52 times a year more than your average bar. clean taplines = better taste and it also indicates an establishment that stands behind the quality of what they sell. they have some sort of "drink yourself into oblivion club" and a small window for food service(this might be only for late-night food versus a full menu during normal hours) with adequate bar food - lots of fried objects. my favorite feature are the picnic tables stacked up on the sidewalk out front so you can drink pitchers of beer on hot and muggy spring|summer|fall nights. never a better feeling than loading up with a few pitchers and then walking out the front door. good people watching and, depending on the night, a boisterous college crowd makes for a solid blackout night on a weekday. plus, they let you keep the pint glasses on certain nights. sadly, my pint glass provides tips for visitors one of which reads: "if the levee breaks, everyone will die. no one seems worried about this problem either." i suppose it is a testament to the will of the people of NO, nothing is a problem if you have enough cold beer. JCTSFR: 1.08
(5)Jiwon B.
This bar is dg friendly and beer friendly. I'm working on my key chain where if you drink all 50 drafts, then you get a free t-shirt and your name on a plaque. I have about 30 more to go. I love the crowd at the bulldog too. It has a local and comforting feel. Note: Do not go on Wednesday unless you need bulldog glasses. It is way to crowded and outdoor seating is slim.
(4)Zachary A.
Los of beers in bottles and on tap. thye give you pint glasses on some nights, and as a result every bar uptown serves beer occaisionaly in pint glasses advertising this bar. They don't cheap on the quality, either. Gotta wonder how they pay for that...
(4)Ron L.
Really cool fun bar, especially the patio area when its nice weather outside. Lots of beer on tap. I usually dont like fruity drinks but tried the strawberry wheat beer and really enjoyed it. Especially when out with my friends that start drinking at 11am... A definite stop on the Magazine pub crawl!
(4)Ashley B.
As I understand it, this place has a ton of regulars, mostly an older set and from the nearby universities. I spent one evening--6 hours--at the bar playing trivia & becoming belligerent on cider. Yes, Ace is on tap (and they're supposedly known for their wide assortment of beers, even one that smells like soy sauce). For every pint you drink, you can take your inscribed-with-joke glass home, and my friend and I took two complete sets each. After screaming "Brrrra-zeel!" as the answer to 50 questions and walking home with a law student who tried to feel us up in his apartment while showing off pictures of his girlfriend, I haven't been back. But I've never forgotten. The nachos were nice, too.
(3)Lisa N.
i liked this bar because... you can eat (well), drink (well), and be merry...all while hanging out with your dog. it's a nicer bar with a nice patio. peeps were friendly, and anywhere where there are dogs makes me kinda giddy.
(4)vicke J.
Seems like a cool place, but the biggest problem i had was the kitchen being very selective over who they wanted to serve. crap.
(2)abigail A.
Wonderful locally owned business, great beer, good people, delicious food, friendly staff, fun atmosphere and the patio is very relaxing on a sunny day. I love the beer tap fountain out back. Plus dogs are welcome.
(5)M S.
came here last weekend to get some more drinks after bourbon street for a few nights. definitely more local, but in a good way. tons of beer on draft. and a great outdoor area. i would like to come back and start the night there, rather than end it there.
(4)Tanya L.
I spent many a fun evening out here, when I lived in Nola. They have a free pint glass each Wednesday, and I just wish my design I submitted was picked. I remember them having a fantastic, out of this world pear flavored beer, circa 2003, but when I returned last year, alas, they had gotten rid of it. And the lady behind the bar looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for it. This place gets an "A" for nostalgia, but now is just alright. But you should stop by it on your Magazine Street bar crawl.
(3)Chris L.
Great bar, good selection; if you don't like crowds drop in during the afternoon for a relatively quiet pint. The outdoor fountain made from beer taps is a nice touch!
(5)James L.
The wide selection of draft beer is awesome -- I believe over 50 on tap and another 100 in bottles. It also carries local microbrews that are worth trying, such as Abita Andygator. This is a good place to go to watch a game, as it has TVs all around the bar.
(4)Susie B.
If you looked in my kitchen cabinets right after college, you would've found an array of amusing and entertaining pint glasses from the Bulldog. Alas, 4 years later, I'm down to about 4 and everyone is a reminder of some night I don't remember...but it was probably a Wednesday (keep your pint glass night) and I drank a lot of beer. It was awesome. The Bulldog is one of the few bars in NOLA that actually checked Id's before serving you...shocking. I know. Kept the underclassmen out though. Good times.
(5)Jelly B.
Love the outdoor patio with the fountain made out of different beer taps. The atmosphere is really like a neighborhood hang out with picnic tables and iron patio furniture. Alcohol prices are fair and the food is your typical bar food. We always enjoy a big order of nachos with our Abitas.
(4)Deva C.
a pretty average bar environment... with loud folks and smokey air... but, the beer list is definitely worth a trip! i didn't get a chance to try the food though...
(3)Michelle D.
Hooray for dog-friendly bars! Our group grabbed a pitcher of the locally made pale ale and grabbed seats on the patio. It was very relaxing, there was plenty of seating, and the bathrooms were actually pretty clean! Woo hoo! Would definitely recommend stopping in, especially if you're out of that "let's get tanked on taaka as fast as we can stage" of your life and are interested in quality brews. Plus dogs, duh!
(4)Heather T.
Much better atmosphere than the one near city park. It's smaller but I enjoy the intimate setting and the fact that it's on Magazine near other bars. I didn't have any of the food this go around but some of my friends did and they seemed to enjoy it. The offer "bar food" so nothing extremely extensive. I'm an apple cider girl who hates beer but they had a nice selection. Two on tap and a selection of bottles. I went with a strawberry cider that was DELICIOUS. I've actually been searching for it since that night. It's a good place to just hang out with friends.
(3)Vanessa R.
We ended up here multiple times on our recent trip to NOLA. Extensive list of beers and ciders and a nice patio in a chill, laid back atmosphere with decent drink prices. Really liked ordering drinks at the bar as opposed to having a server too. Friendly bartenders and fast service. Minus one star for being out of several beers my husband wanted to try but the list is so long didn't end up being a deal breaker. Your pups are welcome on the patio too - makes for cute puppy stalking! When in town will be back!
(4)Marisa B.
Very fun place on Magazine to grab a beer. The patio is fun and always full of cute dogs, and the inside has a jukebox that you can control from your phone! Everyone comes here on Wednesdays because you can keep your pint glasses (I don't have a single non-Bulldog glass in my apartment). Tons of beers on draft, polite and fast service, and ample seating.
(4)Mac R.
Love this bar! It was actually tough to decide on an IPA there were so many choices. Sarah, our bartender, was knowledgeable and guided us through all the local brews. We finally settled on Abita Wrought Iron IPA. A delicious choice. Peaceful during the day here and a very nice bar to hang out in. They also have a nice outdoor patio that's dog friendly, which is a great bonus. Who doesn't love petting puppies & having a beer? We returned on a Wednesday evening before a dinner reservation to claim a couple of the Bulldog Pint glasses they give away with a pour. Grabbed our beers & headed out to the patio because the bar was pretty smokey (something we didn't notice during the day). The smokiness is honestly the only downside to this bar.
(4)Gary R.
As big fans of bulldogs, we had this bar on our radar screen as a place we had to check out just because of the name. When we found out they had about 50 drafts on tap, we decided we needed to get here early in the week! So we did. And we liked it! We like to stop by bars mid afternoon (an advantage of being retired) and when we got there it wasn't at all crowded, maybe 3-4 other "partyers"! Ha. But we got a chance to talk with the bartender Sarah who was a pure delight. Very knowledgable about the beers and the craft beer community in NOLA. We took her up on some suggestions, including Avenue Pub, but found that we liked The Bulldog the best. First of all the selection of IPA's was terrific. Plus Sarah gave us samples of several we were unfamiliar with and our comments about each led her to refine her recommendation. I loved that. We struck a winner with Abita Wrought Iron IPA, among others. The second time we came we grabbed beers and went out to the very cool courtyard and enjoyed the weather and the scenery. Ideal place to have a couple cold ones. We saw people eating some food at the bar and it looked good! But, I'm not the kind of guy that's wants to be eating next to someone smoking a cigarette so I'm pretty sure I'd never eat here until that changed. I'd go back next time I'm in town. The beer selection is worth it!

Bulldog is a dog-friendly bar with a ton of beer and pretty good service. There's also a nice patio where you can enjoy your beer while checking out everyone's awesome dogs. The tap list is good, and if you can't find anything there, the bottle list is also pretty good. Also, we got to keep our pint glasses, which had some pretty hilarious sayings on them. This was, all around, a good experience!

Used to be my favorite establishment to grab a drink at with friends. The place is very small and is usually rather crowded. They have a good beer selection but when it comes down to the having to park, find a seat, and wait behind a large number of people for drinks; it's not worth it all. I'd rather go to world of beer in metaire.
(3)Shelby B.
Great beer selection, both draft and bottle. I love trying out local brews when i visit a new city, and this place has plenty to offer. Prices are very affordable compared to other places in NOLA (like the $8 bud light i bought in the french quarter). The outdoor seating is abundant and very nice. Cool fountain and heaters for when it's chilly.
(4)Lil L.
Just prepared to be wowed at the beer selection. Love the Wednesday Pint-Night as you can take home a complimentary glass (the one its served in) with your pint order. I'm here often enough that I don't need to go shopping for glassware anytime soon. The service here is better than a lot of other nearby bars, bartenders are always attentive and knowledgeable about their selection and beer in general. Loses one star for sometimes being out of the beer I want,

Beer! It's a surprising commodity to come by en mass in NOLA but Bulldog does it right. As stated in about 55 other reviews I'm a big fan of drinking outside, which is why you'll frequently find me here. The long and short of it: 1. Courtyard. You'd think the reason to come here is for the beer, but for me it's for the outdoor courtyard. With ample seating, heat lamps, fans and 1 TV that no one pays attention to, it's the perfect atmosphere for some nice weather day drinking. It does fill up on weekends but there are other bars/restaurants around there to hide your time until a seat opens up. It's well worth it. 2. Beer. Maybe the best beer selection in NOLA. There's always a Lagunitas/Founders/Sweetwater/Rogue to be poured and that's way better than you'll find in 99% of the bars in this city. 3. Food. Nothing special here. It's more or less your run of the mill bar food, but it'll serve for a drunken stomach filling. 4. Specials. They do daily beer specials from various breweries. Worth checking out. I'll find myself at the Bulldog time and time again, though maybe a little less with a World Of Beers opening right down the way. Regardless it worth your time, go check it out! Overall Grade: B+

Great tap room if you're looking to sit down with some friends and have a few drinks. They have an impressive amount of beer on tap as well as a full bar with fine spirits to choose from. Bar service was good and prompt even when busy. Late night food was greasy fried and so-so but hit the spot alongside the beers. Patio takes the spotlight as a great attraction especially on good weather days/nights.
(4)Mark B.
I have been going to this place since college. They always have a great beer selection with good optionality as well. The food is also very legit. There is not a lot more to say about this place. Just a good beer bar with food to match. Nice patio for the outdoor months, sadly a place called The Bulldog does not allow dogs on the patio.
(3)Elise W.
Decent looking pub with youngish crowd. Big beer garden, great beer selection but appalling staff. The staff are way to in love with themselves to actually serve you.
(2)Catherine C.
Solid beer selection, TVs for the sports people, pretty good bar food. Outdoors is dog friendly and has heaters for the colder days.
(4)Annie L.
They hired the dumbest guy at the door. We were two, both in our forties, and he asked to see my ID. I only had my driver's license from Quebec on me but he asked for my passport. As if I'd bar hopped with that on me! I told him that we were both in our forties and he refused to let us in. What a moron.
(1)Mark S.
I'm so glad we stumbled upon the Bulldog. We we walking down Magazine Street and the Bulldog looked like it had a lot of potential. Our bartender Sarah was great, offering up suggestions since we were visiting the area and are unfamiliar with the local breweries. You could tell she was very educated and enthusiastic about beer.
(5)Jessica C.
Love this place! Great beer selection. Cool patio. Great bartenders, especially Erica!
(5)Hong L.
Impressive tap list at The Bulldog. This was the perfect spot to hang out as we were waiting for our table at nearby Atchafalaya. Bulldog keeps a good rotation of local brews, as well as getting quality beers from around the country. The staff is very friendly, and always willing to let you sample beers you are not familiar with. Come in for happy hour, and save on local brews. We weren't so lucky when we visited, but there are usually pups here too.
(4)Matthias E.
Staff denied access although I'm nearly 30 and showed them a valid and current drivers license (from Austria, with a picture, loads of security features and made of plastic!). This NEVER happened to me in NYC, Miami, Orlando, Austin, Houston, San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas and of course: New Orleans. If they are too lazy to use a reference book with valid IDs (or a printout of the law/act applicable, or UV-light, or an ID-scanner, ...) I'm glad to give my money to one of the other great and superior bars/restaurants in NOLA.
(1)Gavin P.
This place is a classy dive. Let me explain: The venue offers an uplifting environment with friendly customers and a clean open space. I felt like I was in an irish bar in St. Patricks day. However, the drinks I saw offered were simple beers. Nothing fancy, just a casual place to crash with good friends. The outdoor space was very unique with its fountain of tap handles. Very cool! Also, there were TV's everywhere to watch the game. Great feature.
(3)Jerrel T.
I am giving this establishment four stars based on bar service and beer choices! Let's just say, you don't come to bulldog for an great meal. It is considered bar food. The cheese fries resemble something close to glue and sandwiches such as the buffalo and mahi mahi come out tactless. But don't let the food stop you from coming here and having a great time. Outdoor seating is awesome with an on tap fountain inside cool and sometimes gets crowded and staff is super friendly!
(4)Casey G.
Awesome place to grab happy hour beers... On Th/F/S nights, the crowd is a little young for me (early 20's) but it's not worth /NOT/ going there for. Also, the food is on point... I recommend the King's Nachos for sure.
(4)Matt C.
Very good craft selection on draft. Staff was very knowledgeable and very helpful in beer decisions. I will definitely be back to this place.
(4)Katie S.
We stumbled upon this bar after walking through the Garden District. The beer selection is pretty damn impressive and the staff was friendly and informative. The ambiance was welcoming, but I wish I could have checked out the backyard area that they appear to have! The cold snap passing through made it 30 degrees outside when we were there, but if we visit again during the warmer months I would be happy to check out The Bulldog again!
(4)Rodrigo R.
The staff was incredibly rude. Starting with the food pick up window the cook say "don't break yourself" when I walked away to get change for a tip. I still went back to tip but bad and rude to say. When I asked the female bartender what beer she would recommend from the dozens they offer so she slaps a menu on the bar and says "there's a menu"..... Any decent bartender would have offered a recommendation.... Rude service.
(1)Dan A.
Smokey. Great beer selection, scan the table tent for selection on your phone. Outside patio is nice (you bring your dog there).
(3)Kira H.
Love these bartenders. Love the grill folks. We come here every week and always have a ridiculously good time.
(5)Kelly M.
Fabulous staff and fabulous beer!!! Staff (especially Sarah) very knowledgable on current beers. Coming from out of town it was great to feel so welcomed in a very laid back puppy friendly environment. Fire ant barrel aged red ale was amazing for anyone who likes a darker beer. Overall a great place and a fun time with a relaxed and chill feel! Enjoy!!!!!
(5)Chelz B.
Don't fill out a review drunk just bc you're sad they switched the softball game to something else that was already playing on another TV so that when you ask them to change it back, they put it on a different TV and by that time, you've missed the ending of the game. That's my words of wisdom
(4)Christina T.
Stopped by for a quick drink after class. It was my first time going. Pretty loud. More of a beer spot of course but I ordered wine. They didn't have Reisling and the Savignon Blanc recommended was supposed to be sweet but wasn't. I tried the cuban wrap which was really good...the sauce made the wrap good. Without the sauce it would have just be ok. Not a place I would go to all of the time...better for younger college kids..not the 30 crowd.

My wife and I have been eying this place for months following our move here. We like how inviting the patio area was and the beer and food selection. When we moved here, my wife was several months pregnant so we decided to put it off and visit once the little one arrived. We wanted this to be our first family restaurant outing at the patio. Unfortunately even though there was ample outdoor patio seating, we were refused as patrons because the Bulldog apparently has a no baby policy--even at the outdoor patio area along the noisy Magazine street at 1pm on a Friday afternoon. i totally understand wanting to keep up your ambiance as a "hip" pub, but I have to say that's pretty douchey of this establishment to ostracize those with little ones wanting to sit outside along a noisy road. Especially newborns that sleep all the time anyways.
(1)Hannah G.
This was my neighborhood bar when I lived uptown so I frequented it quite a bit. Good points: extensive beer selection, I believe it is a close second to Avenue Pub in terms of their selection, they serve food and it's decent, and they allow dogs on their patio. Also, the patio has misters and fans to help you beat the heat. If there's a good game on, they will have all of their TV's inside tuned in and also, at least for the big games, they will have a TV outside, broadcasting it to the patio crowd. It's also a fun place to play trivia with your friends or maybe even indulge in some video poker. Bad points: Although the crowd can be diverse and I've seen all types there, I feel the overwhelming majority there are college aged kids, and not the hip, artistic types of college kids, but the frat boy type. The kind that wear their polo shirts and fist bump. Those type of college kids. Still a good spot though:)
(3)Charlie A.
I was really hoping the Magazine location of this extremely popular "beer bar" to be an improvement over it's Baton Rouge location. It's not. It's worse. For a bar with so many (too many?) beers on tap, the not too friendly staff knows very little about beer. Maybe they don't care because they know every other person who comes in is just going to order a Bud Light. But it shows, and it's embarrassing.
(1)Matt G.
From NY on vacation and heard about this place after brunch at commanders. Awesome relaxed bar with a young fun vibe. Bartender Sarah was an immediate friend and made the 3 or so hours we stayed extra chill. Deff the spot to hit in this area.
(5)Kaitlin D.
Awesome little spot for warm football Sunday. Spinach & artichoke dip was awesome, huge selection of beer and great atmosphere completed the experience. The outdoor patio is absolutely adorable & plenty of thought was put in to make it (nearly) year-round feasible to watch tv outside. The fountain is quaint, the tree lights are pretty, firepits, heat lamps, or fans help control the climate.
(5)Jennifer K.
Really I could have kept that collective pint glass on a Wednesday without trying to stuff that down my Yelp friend jacket?! The glass is so cute but I am bias, I am into dogs. Oh maybe I should just buy one of those Mardi Gras one for $4 and all proceeds goes towards SPCA. There was no problem getting a table or ordering our beers since we came by on a weekday afternoon. Beer selection is great. Everyone would have find something they enjoy either from their taps or bottles. Great place to chill out after a long walk from CBD. Really I walked that far to get here...
(4)Andrew W.
Solid spot for drinks and in a very cool section of the city. They were kind of weird about re-entry, I'm not sure if it was because of the cover for the band, but they seemed to give us a hard time walking in and out. It was crowded, but not uncomfortable. Live music, but set up so that you could talk to someone if you wanted to. Enough bar tenders to allow you to get a drink... All in all good place.
(4)Daniel B.
First time in New Orleans. Went here on a recommendation from a friend and loved it! Great beer and great atmosphere. Definitely preferred over the touristy shadiness of Bourbon St.
(5)Steve S.
Funny that they advertise 16oz beers but never fill the glasses. So you basically get about 13oz's. Thought maybe it was just my server on the first but I watched for a while and they all do it. I can see the mentality for a server having to navigate a busy nightclub but this place doesn't have table service. Kinda weak if you ask me
(3)Daniel T.
If you're in New Orleans on a Wednesday, you have to go to the Bulldog. You get to keep your pint glasses on those nights! There is also an awesome water fountain in the patio area with different taps pouring out the water. Bring your dogs and have a good time! Also a nice spot to grab a drink while you wait for seating at restaurants nearby.
(4)Alvin D.
3.5/5 it is what it is i think things like pint night is fun. none of my drinkware match, and thanks should go to the bulldog for at least helping me get uniformed size glasses going. i think they have a good selection and i like that there's food. even during the warmer nights the fans and misters keep the patio tolerable. it can get pretty crowded (navigating the patio can feel like a maze sometimes), but i do enjoy it on quieter nights.
(4)Robert O.
Great beer. Great service. Great food. Great music. Fire pit! Tons of choices. Sarah is awesome! Love Pint Wednesday!
(5)Marc M.
Stopped in here with a group of people which turned out to be a great choice as we basically took over the spacious patio area and had a great time. The bar staff was very welcoming and handled out group quite easily even though we more than doubled the amount of customers at the time. I can see this being a really great place to just hang out and have a few drinks from time to time. Great decor and chill atmosphere.
(4)Deb C.
Sarah is awesome! So is Tommy! This is not a lie. We mentioned being tourists and she busted out with stuff showing us where to go and what to do for fun. They have a huge selection of both draft and bottled beers and are very knowledgeable about both. Their music selection is also on point. This place is definitely worth a visit!
(5)Brea B.
There was a very nice patio to hang out on with a large TV for sporting events. There were a couple cranky bartenders to get past but I assume they're warn out from the tourist clientele. Definitely worth another shot!
(3)Kurt L.
Visited recently and got my favorite. The chicken "Santa Fe" sandwich. It was incredible. Apparently it is marinated in orange juice, honey, hand-crushed garlic, and a flurry of herbs and spices that would de-throne ANY "chicken king"!!! If you are unsatisfied with anything they WILL make you so something until it is right. (At least the managers were willing to do so for me)
(5)Mallory E.
This bar goes through phases and last night was a very off night. It was a very cold night and the bouncer allowed three of my friends into the bar and SHOVED me outside and slammed the door in my face leaving me in the cold alone. When I tried saying it is ok I am with them he shoved me outside again and put his back to the door to not let me in. I understand that it is difficult to card 4 - 27 year olds at one time and it was cold outside but you do not kick one girl out of her group leaving her outside by herself for over five minutes. Other than that - this is a good dive bar, I prefer the one on Canal because there is more room and a great patio area. The food is decent bar food and they have a ton of beers to chose from.
(3)Hope Z.
Sarah is the best. Very knowledgable and real. Easy to chat with. She has a great memory for beer and what I like.
(5)Maria D.
While Strolling down Magazine street looking for a place to have lunch and a cold beer when we stumbled upon the Bulldog Bar. I can honestly say I had the best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had with a ice cold Turbodog Beer. The place impressed me so much I wish there were more around. A definite go to place in New Orleans.
(5)Kimmie P.
Awesome place to chill with friends. I like staying outside rather than inside. A bit pricey, but still coming back here!
(5)Rob T.
What an awesome place! Excellent selection of international draft and bolttled microbrews to choose from. Wednesday nights are particularly fun sporting a lively crowd, drink specials, and Bulldog pint glass give aways -- if you collect 10 glasses and return them, you get a Bulldog t-shirt. Excellent pub grub can also be found here. Great outdoor patio with a pretty outrageous water fountain made up of beer taps. BTW, all monies collected from the fountain are donated to local animal chatities and for that alone, The Bulldog deserves 5 stars! 100% dog friendly -- I bring the pups all the time and they love it there too!
(5)Andrew C.
We went in for some food and a couple of drinks on a Sunday afternoon. We were from out of town and one of our friends was unfortunately pick pocketed the night before and was without ID. The manager wouldn't let us in which was understandable, however than proceeded to treat us like second class citizens and wouldn't even give us a recommendation where we could eat or hang out. Very rude and very unhelpful. Shall not return.
(1)Jen L.
Still a solid choice especially for the beer drinker, although they can make a basic cocktail here. The patio is awesome ...until it rains on you or when you decide to sit outside to avoid the smoke on one of NOLA's rare freezing evenings. Thank goodness for heaters and the bar supplied blankets. The staff is usually good and if you can catch the kitchen when it's open, the snacks are tasty.
(4)Tony L.
Large Selection of beers. Pretty cool. Came during mardi gras. Was served promptly and the bartenders were nice. We got there too late to try the kitchen. Try a beer flight- they have many to chose from.
(4)Valerie N.
SUCH a cool place! We stumbled into the Bulldog while walking from Le Petite Grocery to Sucre. I was immediately drawn into the name (Go Dawgs!) and the awesome fountain of bar taps on the patio. The beer list is extensive and I loved that they have an old-timey pick up window for food. Mixed drinks were delicious and the vibe was perfectly chill. A great place to grab a drink while on Magazine street!
(4)Bob B.
Simple cheap burger joint, with outstanding beer selection - and a generous pour for Bloody Mary's. Pooch friendly. Eclectic clientele, from bearded hipster lumber sexual to classy dames fresh from local spas. Great music, great outdoor patio and fountain. No brainier.
(4)Ilya T.
Loved this place. Great beer selection on tap (with great prices to go with it). Funny bartenders. TVs all over the inside (Although it was pretty weird to see Fox News on the main TV over the bar). Large outdoor space with plenty of tables make for good people watching... and a huge TV. Pretty cool fountain made from tap handles in the outdoor area as well.
(4)Anonymous C.
The food is really good. Our bartender is very sweet and funny. Love the patio!!! Sarah the bartender is super attentive and she suggests great beers.
(5)Rachel R.
My girlfriend and I were looking at the menu in front of the order window behind another person waiting to order. There wasn't anyone behind us but as soon as the person finished ordering, the dude behind the window said to "hurry up of you're ordering food cause I got a lot of food to fry." I was literally waiting for the person ahead of me to step out of the way. Jeez. Then I ordered an appetizer first. I received an annoyed, somewhat mocking reply: "It's all coming out at the same time because we're really behind." I'm sorry but anyone who is going to talk to their patrons so rudely and unprofessionally does not deserve my money. We walked out, so I can't speak for the food, but it was one of the worst service experiences I've had and we'd only been in the place for a minute-- the service at Amici was far more welcoming.
(1)Ashley G.
Good beer selection and the bartenders are great about leading you in the right direction when it comes to trying new things. Be careful, though: it is easy to buy an $8-$10 pint. The patio is cute, which everyone knows really means cozy, which really means small. I know this is a dog friendly establishment (ONLY on the patio), but I could not imagine bringing my dog when the patio is full. There simply would not be enough room. So, if you plan to bring your pooch, plan for the least busy of times.
(4)Christopher W.
Stopped in here while on one of my social ride for some beers. I really enjoyed the place. Huge selection of draft beer which is always a big thing for me and it appears that they have a nice menu of bar food. We sat out on the patio by the interesting tap fountain which is an interesting and cool decoration. At $5 per 16oz beer that is reasonable enough for me to return when I venture uptown which is not often enough.
(4)Terri B.
Large selection and good vibe all around. Has a grill as well if you're in need of food!!
(4)John F.
Great bar with cold beer and an awesome patio. Staff is the friendliest is the city. A can't miss when visiting New Orleans.
(5)M E.
Don't bother visiting if you're on holiday from another country and aren't carrying your passport, you won't be allowed in.
(1)Jennifer B.
The Bulldog is alright. I'm not really a beer drinker, so maybe the beer selection just doesn't "wow" me the way it should. However, it's a nice clean bar, friendly bartenders, and good drinks. Oh, and they frequently raise money for the SPCA, so that's a plus in my mind. Why 3 stars? Smoke... so much smoke. It's extremely small and crowded, so the cigarette smoke fills the inside air quite quickly. The patio is nice, but I suspect far too hot in the summer to actually sit outside and enjoy a drink. In the winter, it's a bit chilly but they do provide blankets. I would still rather hang out inside, minus the smoke.
(3)Woody S.
Most people I know go to The Bulldog for the beer but I go for the food. The burgers are the best bar-and-grill type burgers in NOLA. The chicken sandwiches are scrumptious as well. The guys in the kitchen do a great job of dealing with people who are in a hurry and want their food "20 minutes ago." I think the specialties -- the hop wings and crawfish banditos, a special deep-fried wrap of cheese, crawfish and spices -- will hit the spot of even the most discerning aficionado of "pub grub." The bar staff is friendly and conscientious. Overall they are fantastic. For more than two decades The Bulldog has been the hotspot of Magazine Street. The patio allows smoking despite the city's anti-smoking laws. If I had to pick one area for improvement it would be the music they play, but that's so minor it hardly warrants mention. Plus, how do you get such a diverse staff and crowd to agree on the best tunes? I travel to NOLA a lot on business and try to stop at this place when I can. For good food and great beer, you can't go wrong here.
(5)Rowdy P.
Good place to watch douchebags overpay for beer. Other than that, not much entertainment
(1)Brenna B.
I will always love the bulldog, although I really miss the one in BR. Laid back, chill. This one is good for grabbing a drink for casual conversation.
(5)Jessica C.
GREAT wings, stellar service, dog friendly patio, and ample beers to choose from on tap. What's not to love?
(5)Jolie D.
The Big Easy at its finest. Saturday afternoon, full patio, flowing beer, friends and family. Nice tap beer selection and prompt/polite service from the bar staff, especially Brooke.
(4)John L. H.
The Bulldog is a great bar for beer lovers. It has been a long time since I have been to the Bulldog. I remembered it fondly so I was excited when a friend recommended we meet there. As you walk in there is a long bar filled with taps. There is seating at the bar as well as several tables against the back wall. Several TVs line the bar so you can watch sports while having a cold beer. My favorite area is the outside patio. There is a large fountain with beer taps for water spigots, several small tables and one giant picnic style table. The patio fronts Magazine street which is perfect for people watching. The beer selection is excellent. While they offer a drink around the world promotion, I've never been able to concentrate on silly bar games after several beers. On this trip I was pleased to learn they have Jefferson Stout on tap. I really enjoy that beer and I haven't been able to find it in too many places. I look forward to more trips to the Bulldog in the near future. Maybe I will see you there. If I do, the first round is on you.
(4)Britt C.
Huge beer selections. Dog friendly. Wednesday nights you can keep the pint glass. Pretty cool place to hang out and watch a game.
(4)Cristy C.
I prefer the Bulldog in MidCity because it's much larger. I don't like the inside of this one as much. I try to go to the courtyard as much as possible. The cigarette smoke inside makes me sick... the food is usually always good. I like the burgers and their straight cut fries.
(3)Naveed B.
If The Bulldog isn't packed you can go ahead and bump this review up a star. That being said it's always ridiculously packed. Yeah sure it's a great location and the patio is nice and all, but good luck ordering your beer. The past few times I've come here I tried to order a drink for fifteen minutes and ended up giving up and leaving. Don't even think about sitting. All the tables will be full and there will hardly even be a place to stand. You are basically always the awkward person standing in everyone's way because there is nowhere else for you to stand. That being said, when it's not packed it's a very decent bar. The Bulldog is known for its beer selection(it's okay). They have some pretty decent brews on tap. When you can actually sit down outside it's a great place to sit, chat, and people watch. They also have some pretty good burgers other types of bar food. So to repeat myself, if it's crowded you probably want to go somewhere else. If it's not then stop by and enjoy yourself.
(2)Katie A.
Comments about prices are the same as my other Mid-City Bulldog review--definitely beatable there. I have had food once here, some nachos which looked DELICIOUS when other people kept bringing them out, and then were pretty terrible when I got them myself. Perhaps I am judging too soon, but...the chips were WEAK. If you tried to actually pick up any of the toppings with them, they broke. Isn't this the point of nachos? I was basically scarred for life. Seriously, this happened about 6 months ago and I still lament that terrible plate of nachos. Plus, this is in that terrifying cone of "places Tulane kids can get to easily" which makes it pretty horrifying during the school year. During the summer it was quite fun, but once those kids roll in, I'd like to keep a healthy distance. I do like that I can bring my puppy here and sit on the patio in nice weather. Beer selection is quite good, prices are steep. Within walking distance of a couple other bars, though none that allow dogs as far as I know. I'd say stop in if you're bar-hopping on Magazine, but expect a crowd.
(2)Michael P.
This is a cool spot with good beers and a pleasant atmosphere. If you're hungry, the food isn't bad either. Some of the bartenders are pretty nice too and bonus to filling your kitchen with a few pint glasses that you get to take home on Wednesdays.
(4)Kristel S.
$3 Screwdrivers and a really nice bartender who drew us a map of where to sightsee!
(5)B B.
Good place to go when you just don't feel like going anywhere nice or dressing up. Nice uptown staple. Wide selection of beers and great fries. Bartender was rude, but what's new?

(4)Martin D.

(5)Emily W.
Sooo many beers on tap and a great place to bring the dog!
(4)Marc M.
(3)Travis W.
(5)Lindsey C.
(1)Sara U.

(4)m j.

YUM!
(5)Greg B.

(1)Jeremy M.
(5)Roy S.
Great place! Great service! Awesome selection of beer! Will definitely return in the future!
(4)Jason And Joy C.
beer as you know was good. food was a complete surprise. that dude back there knows how to cook. me and the wife got several things and all was really good. also just an fyi, we went after the nola brewery tour. it was mini beer fest day.
(5)Eric F.
(3)Taylor S.

Are you in the mood for a drink ? Beer? How about some bar food? Ok this is your place.

i visited during the week around mid-day during our recent visit to New Orleans.

(4)Emily F.

Thank you. Jefe
(5)Tiffany C.

Bulldog is the ultimate local beer place. Wednesday nights are a must go for the local university crowd. Great beer selection and nice patio. Great location on Magazine. Always a fun time!

Dogs at a bar? That's really cool right? Yes. If you disagree you are a communist. Good selection of beer. Good location on Magazine. Good Patio for chilling out. Decent bar food.

Good beer, nice people and outdoor seating. The cook is kind of a jerk but just snarl back and it's all good :)

Beers from around the world!

Good food, great beer, cool people. xo

Sunday morning at 11:30. The beer was cold and the burger was cooked perfectly and tasted just as good. I would highly recommend for the beer choices. Even though they were getting busy post Mardi Gras marathon..the service was good.
